I’ve been crying so much over this. I genuinely can’t believe how heartless some people can be…

It sucks, but its better than having to drive 2 hours in rush hour traffic there and back to get fired the moment you walk in the door. At least you saved a ton of time.

Always look on the bright side.

Probably the most annoying layoff I've had was being told as a contractor to meet in person with the managers in charge. It was a remote job and the only other time I met with them in person was for the job interview.

The stated intention for the meeting was to re-establish boundaries and division of work because they did not see as much progress as they had hoped. I looked forward to the discussion because I agreed that the pace was too slow.

When I arrived, they had a different tone. The just told me that they chose to end my contract and give me my final pay check. Even though it was just a contract job, it was still annoying to be misled like that.

They would wait til the end of the day at my previous job to fire you which would make me crash out if it ever happened to me. I just worked all day and then you fire me, knowing you were gonna do that all day and you just let me work oblivious to the fact that

That happened to me at the emergency vet clinic I worked at. I was a receptionist. I’ll put it like this: I wasn’t cut out for that kind of work for a lot of reasons. But I got the feeling management didn’t like me. Like, not in my usual anxious way but a “I seem to bring down the mood of the whole room when management is there” kind of way. On the day I was fired, I was scheduled to work until 7:00. A little before 5:00 I see my mangers staring at me from their window (their office was upstairs and had a huge ass window overlooking the reception area.). Then I hear my phone ring and I’m asked to come up to their office. They fired me, and I asked if I needed to finish my shift. I was told no and escorted out. I had to gather my stuff from the front, and the back locker rooms where everyone could see. It felt juvenile and embarrassing.

I had the gut feeling I was going to be fired but it was super frustrating to be fired at 5:00 PM on a Friday. I suppose I’m lucky that I was able to collect one final full paycheck but still…
