This is why a “two week notice” to quit a job should be considered a professional courtesy and nothing more.

I've been in a career overseas doing contracts where you give a 2 week notice and they fire you. If I give a 2 week notice now I make sure I have 2 weeks vacation time saved up and simply resign.
