Job Search Assistance

Hi everybody,

Happy Labor day! It's tough out here in the job market this year. Hopefully you are happily employed and we'll taken care of. This post is for those of you struggling to celebrate this weekend...

I want to help! I've spent the past couple years as a recruiter and I think I've had enough of it. The job market is very obviously flooded with candidates, fake job postings, AI interference, and more. I'll say it again, I want to help. So I need you guys to tell me if this is a good idea or not.

I want to start a company/service that ACTUALLY assists with job search. Gets you around the Indeed fake job posts. Gets you around the LinkedIn and HR automated "invisible" resume keyword filtering ATS. I want to help advertise and grow your network by using my tools to get your resume into the hands of REAL hiring managers. I'll call them! I'll email them. Whatever it takes to get your resume past all the shenanigans. I have the tools and the means already to help I just want to know if this seems like a good idea. Obviously, I cant guarantee a placement where you want. These days a guarantee is an empty promise anyway. What I can do is turn around and give you "career advice" and let you know what the managers are telling me in their feedback on your resume.

So, good idea? Bad idea? Why or why not? How much would you be willing to pay for something of this format? I'm thinking of a (call me crazy) DECREASING pay scale. X amount first month. Still no job? Ok I didn't do a good job. 2nd month is a discount. 3rd month even more discount. 4th? You still have faith in me? Even more discount. I'll continue to search until you're satisfied. Even if I make 5 bucks a month.

Sounds like a nobel idea that has a potential.

LinkedIn and indeed has become so oversatured and full with fake jobs that people has started looking for jobs in literally Discord, Reddit, and even Tinder.

Youth is hungry but also exhausted with constant dming, emailing, and applying for months and some even years.

Personally, I landed on 3 jobs from discord. Two for B2B companies as an assistant and one for social media management, since then I'm literally everywhere trying to find someone who would response back authentically instead of sending me random links and referrals.

This is kinda what im thinking. Helping people avoid the fake stuff and get to real people quicker. Although, you're the first I've ever heard of getting a job from discord. I'm hoping to be a person you can talk to and get real feedback from, while also being a sort of personal assistant when it comes to finding a job. Plus I think if you have 2 people looking and one with the capabilities to directly contact a hiring manager then, we're increasing your chances of finding something worth while.

This is a noble idea, and I hope my pessimism is due to burnout with looking for work. I’m not sure what you are adding. There are already web-crawling job boards like Hiring Cafe, and resume helpers to bypass ATS like Job Owl. If you can sift out ghost jobs, jobs that will be cancelled for budgetary reasons, and jobs that will be given to an internal candidate, that will be invaluable.

Hiring managers provide actionable feedback to their in-house recruiters so they can find better candidates from the resumes that pass ATS. They don’t provide that information beyond that point. The only feedback I’ve gotten from recruiters, 3rd party or in house have been the following:

  • the role is cancelled due to budgetary changes
  • the hiring manager found another candidate whose experience better aligns with the position

Thank you for the idea and best of luck with the execution.

Thanks for feedback! My hope is that I can be more helpful and simply increase OUR chances of you getting the job you want by getting into hiring managers at no cost to them and little cost to you, the candidate. It's been my experience as a freelance recruiter that sometimes it just makes both parties happier and more inclined to interact when they're able to talk to a person. Instead of using the "tools" on the computer, instead of sorting through the resumé stampede and rejecting them all because of one reason or another. And seriously you're the type of person I want to help the most. Job search burn out is extremely real these days. I just think I can make it worth the try.
