This is so not an ippon. Why can't they just reserve ippon for clear cut, decisive throws? It was a cool reversal and counter, very skillful. Some kind of score, sure. I mean, Abe landed on tori's leg, on top of him. I can't fathom why this needs to be an ippon and not a lesser score.

Because Abe lands in the neck bridge which is considered an ippon the same way landing flat on your back is

Where is the control and power required for an ippon? The judging is so bad, it seems that no matter how you get your opponent on the back you will get an ippon.

Just a reminder of the IJF criteria for an ippon:

  • 1. Speed
  • 2. Force
  • 3. On the back
  • 4. Skilfully control until the end of the landing
