Judo News Tushishvilli v Riner, Goram still a sore loser
Tushishvilli just looked up at the sky and didn't shake Riner's hand.
Kind of a bitch move, he's such a sore loser.

I agree Guram is acting like a lil bitch. But at the same time the ijf shouldn't assign an active judoka to give the medals, especially if he is in the same category. And specifically when they knew there was bad blood. Would they do the same if teddy was not french (or japanese)? Would they give the honor to, say, a Russian?

I agree. Even if it's assigned way ahead of time without knowing Tushishvilli will be on the podium, it's still a bit awkward, given Teddy is an active player and has been targeted by the rest of the +100kg for the last decade.

I thought that he was inactive and I missed the news, you make a good point but that's a separate issue.

In the first place, the IJF should never assign a currently active judoka to hand out medals to other judokas in the same damn weightclass like this. And like u/JimmmyJ said, someone that you have bad blood with, who has always beaten you, handing you the 2nd place medal is just fucked.
Teddy Riner has always been a sore loser himself so why are people only calling out Tushishvili for it?

They can fight for the 2nd place, Tasoev is the number 1.

It's such a shame, because he's one of my favorite judokas to watch.

He needs to grow up, he’s 30 years old and act like a teenager.

Even when he won the Qfinal, he won it trying to get opponent to shido and then in golden score he suddenly showed up.

Apart from the fact that assigning an active Judoka is dumb: Yes Tushishvilli is kinda a sore loser. However especially when it comes to Tushishvilli Riner also isn’t really a good winner either. In the Olympics they honestly both could or even should have received HSK, because Riners mimics and sticking out his tongue were also very unsportsmanlike. However of course they couldn’t do that in the Olympics to someone like Riner it would have been a very bad look with a lot of people watching. So I think they both really hate each other. Of course they both could have been professional about it but I understand why Goram wasn’t and at least they left each other alone and expressed their hatred towards each other quite subtle

Yep, true, but also notice how Tushishvilli acted when Georgia won Mixed gold, he was one of the loudest and overtly celebrating.

Teddy in a interview "even when I am not there he still ain't winning" lmao.

He also seemed legit thrilled for Tasoev. That would be funny if next WC they end up facing each other in finale Tasoev with the red name tag as WC and Riner with the gold name tag as Olympic champion.

Maybe because I'm old and I grew up in a different era, but I don't think being a sore loser is a bad thing. To me it shows that you really care about winning. He was so close to gold today. He's 30 years old so time is no longer on his side. He's not as fast as he used to be. He's had a brilliant career, but the one person who has stood in his way is handing him a silver medal. I can understand the emotions even if I don't condone the behavior.

I'm 53, so I get you, but he's looking like an asshole. It's also against judo values to be a bitch (Kano said exact thing) lol

His outbursts aren’t cool and I don’t want macho prizefighting antics in Judo, but I find this whole thing entertaining anyway.

If Teddy hadn't stuck his tongue out at him in Paris, Guram certainly wouldn't have received a six-month suspension. So it's fair game. And then right after the podium, Riner made fun of his second place: "Even when I'm not there, he can't win. We only remember the first ones."

Hum… what? Like are you blaming Riner for sticking his tongue out so that is alright for Tushishvilli’s behaviour? How does that reflect on our sport that is supposed to showcase self control and respect from BOTH contestants?

u/VLNR01 yondan Jun 20 '25
If you're being honest, you know that both should have been disqualified, but since it was in France and Riner is the IJF’s poster boy, he received no sanction at all.

u/Jigoro-Krado Jun 19 '25
The punishment was justified but Riner likes to humiliate some of his opponents. I understand why Tushishvili refused the handshake.

Tushishvilli always shows up with the biggest attitude in the room, and it feels like dude just has too much testosterone that's screaming for toughness.
That being said, seeing your biggest "rival" (we all know Teddy owns their rivalry) who's always in your way to the ultimate greatness, and having him give you a 2nd place medal after a close contest at the World Championship is not gonna the happiest scenario for Tushishvilli. I probably would've hated it, too, but just no so bluntly tho :)
