People who did Judo pre 2012 don't really care one way or the other about leg grabs coming back.

People that started Judo after 2012 believe leg grabs are a cheat code that will instantly make them better or make their Judo more complete.

I did judo pre 2012. And while I can live with them not coming back I'd prefer they did.

To me it seems odd that a grappling martial art ignores the most basic method the average noob would use to try and take someone down.

Tbf Greco Roman and several traditional folk styles have prohibitions against the legs. People do like throws.

And I really don’t think the average untrained person is going to go for a leg grab. Legitimately never saw that on a nightclub fight (admittedly, been quite a few years since I saw one). Untrained people punch (badly) and shove. Their takedown is “shove and hope the uke trips on something”.

I think pretty much every club worth their salt will have a few old guys that came up with leg grabs being a normal part of Judo and have zero issues if someone wants to do randori with pre 2013 rules.

Every bjj club swears they can take me down if they shoot on my legs. It's literally only worked when the guy is a current D1 wrestler (im an office worker in my 30s). Bjj level standup with singles isn't nearly good enough to take down a component judoka who has dabbled in upper body control, gi or no gi.

I admit I was foolish enough to think I'd Chael Sonnen my way through a judo school in my 20s. It didn't work well for me.

BJJ has shitty standup. I‘ve wrestled in a club for 8 months and easily takedown my cousin who‘s practiced Judo 5 years when I shoot for the legs.

Either u very good which is a compliment and probably i guess did some very good judo and possibly learned sprawling and single leg low single or ankle pick defenses because in western europe where judo is definitely legit france netherlands belgium vast majority of black belt judo do get takedown often if not dominanted in nogi against anyone 3 years of legit nogi standup with single legs double legs.... Sometimes i wonder where online judokas live because in reality both in bjj competition or mma western europe i definitely dont see this

I cross trained judo with wrestling doing no gi before I ever picked up the gi in an mma setting. Then I did judo pre-leg grab ban before going into bjj for a few years. My stance has to lower if I'm not messing around to make their shot longer. There's a lot of simple downward blocking on the head with a collar tie in tandem with hip distance management which helps neutralize the threat of the single/double.

I'm also 5'8 and compete around 180 so I'm usually shorter for my division so maybe that also helps when I compete in bjj.

Makes sense, but then u not pure judo tho .... Pure judokas who only do Gi are unless elite/very good competitors at good level not at all adapted like u are to it. But yeah judo plus wrestling plus training with leg grabs being allowed ofcourse beats any non real legit wrestler ... same way any wrestler with good striking would beat all judokas in a real fight
