Judo x MMA What advantages does Judo have compared to Bjj to succeed in the grappling part of MMA?

I've been training MMA for over a year and trying to learn Bjj moves to get better at grappling when I train. Some say, however, that Judo makes you better at keeping your balance or possibly learn to falling the right way. what do you think?

Judo x MMA Judo for MMA?

Judo is very overlooked as skillset that should be used in MMA. Compared to other major martial arts like (bjj, boxing, kickboxing, muay thai and wrestling). Judo is probably the last discipline out of all them that the average viewer would choose . However, like every martial art, the skill moves, defenses, and principles. It needs to be filtered to be used properly. In my opinion if an mma fighter wants to learn judo, filtering to just focus on ashi waza would be more helpful rather than focusing on other techniques that requires a high degree of profiency. You have seen the khabibs, fedor, islam even jon jones use judo. But all have one in common. They all use just ashi waza combined with the wrestling. What do you guys think?

Judo x MMA How would i put someone in a arm bar like this

So yk how mighty mouse had the flying armbar i wonder if you can use harai goshi and get it into an armbar

Look at Karo parisyan he flipped himself with it and he could have put is opponent into an armbar

Can you see that happening or am I tripping?

That will be a crazy submission

How do practice doing that to get that result then?

Judo x MMA Underestimated aspect of judo for MMA

So I see a lot online other martial artists slating the pinning aspect of competitive judo.

However, if you think about it it’s actually a really key transferable skill for MMA too. If you look at high level grapplers in the UFC for example Islam Makhachev (I know he’s base is sambo but that takes inspo from judo and he is also a judo black belt). He’s not always hunting submissions, a lot of the time he’s pinning opponents to the ground and controlling them to find angles to land strikes or tire out his opponent. So it’s actually a very useful thing to drill not just for competitions.

I see it get grilled a lot but personally can’t see why. Thoughts?

Edit: just to clarify I mean the 10 second rule in competition not just pure osaekomi.

Judo x MMA Merab Dvalishvili and Khabib Nurmagomedov Judoka/Sambo? Or Wrestling

Going through both of their records, Merab and Khabib are both Judo black belts, as well as accomplished combat, Sambo practitioners. (Merab took silver at the worlds and I believe Khabib won Gold.)

I can’t find anywhere that says both men either competed in freestyle wrestling or have a freestyle wrestling background. So why do we keep referring to their base art as wrestling?

Is it because it’s more of an umbrella term because the eastern block competitors train, judo, Sambo, and wrestling hand-in-hand ? We are just dumb Americans who are misinformed?

Judo x MMA I was rewatching the first Islam vs. Arman fight

I was rewatching the first Islam vs. Arman fight (https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=UiXLK3e76KM) and around 7:35 they end up in a standing grappling match. I was wondering why none of them, especially Arman, tries to throw a (drop) Seoi Nage from that position. Which is easily accomplished with No-Gi. Especially considering both have Judo backgrounds.

Judo x MMA The best no gi or judo techniques for mma?

I know this has probably been asked numerous times however, what do you think would be a good combinations of judo technques that are used in mma or can be used in mma. Preferably the use of techniques are the ones that are effective in mma, like uchi mata or ouchi gari

Judo x MMA How useful are MMA gyms compared to gyms that focus on one specific martial art?

So I’m moving and I’m trying to find a good BJJ gym, but I also have interest in Judo and kickboxing/Muay Thai. How is the instruction of these martial arts in MMA compared to their individual clubs? What should I look out for? Obviously if I were to do them at separate clubs it would definitely be more expensive, and I can’t properly mix them together.

Judo x MMA Who else enjoys mixing their Judo with other martial arts? I am only a greenbelt but I taught Muay Thai for years and I have some fun ideas. John Wick is great inspiration for this too!

I think pulling guard in a street fight is the dumbest thing you can do. I used to get into fights a lot growing up because I'm a small guy and I'm generally jolly lol so bullies hated me.

I like mixing strictly Muay Thai and Judo. Lots of great ideas from John Wick. This is a video I made before which many of you showed love on but it got deleted lol so I'm reposting: https://youtu.be/7wGkzDgCxAc

Muay Thai fighters have clinching which really lends itself to nogi versions of throws! But I must say that the muay thai understanding of throws is VERY basic. Judoka will wreck Muay Thai fighters in a clinch, if they don't get knocked out getting close.

Just hoping to discuss striking to Judo throws and see if anyone else mixes it up out here!

Martial Arts nerds assemble! hehe

Judo x MMA Harai goshi vs Uchi mata

I have several questions. If the harai goshi is available does that mean the uchi mata is also available? What would be the cue for you to go to a harai goshi rather than an uchi mata vice versa? And for some reason i find it hard to do harai but i can hit uchi matas. These are normally done in no gi overhooks and underhooks.
