Rave in Kelowna on 20th September

One of my friends is organizing a rave in Kelowna on the 20th September. Seen a lot people asking about raves so I thought I’d let yall know. I’ve heard 2 of the DJ’s before and they’re solid

Feel like the 90s idea of a rave was getting an address or map the day of to a random warehouse or place in a forest where DJs had set up and drugs were ubiquitous

They occasionally happen here but it’s very word of mouth for sure. 1615 is an okay spot, at least they’re trying host this kind of event

Ahh I see what you mean, yeah I mean I totally agree in terms of the obscurity of the experience. But I think now with social media being a main way to advertise people rather know how to plan their night out in advance. Like my friend did mention that as the events gain more traction they will start keeping locations secret and releasing info the day off. Either way, hope to see you there for some serious dancing

Also this ends at 2am. In the 90s that would be the set time of the best DJ in the lineup. Everyone would be rolling on e or crystal and dancing their butts off. Parties were planned in advance though. We had flyer kids to hand out promos at other raves. We also put them all over cars in parking lots outside parties the weeks before ours was going on. This was in Toronto.

I guess the vibe is different than a nightclub, more space to dance, more dancey music than pop music. Also bring earplugs it can get loud

No Soundsystem or sound company advertised. DJs nobody has heard of. Promoter booked himself and I'm assuming will take the headliner slot. No established acts or touring artists. Called it a rave but clearly don't know what a real rave is. House and techno so it's no different from normie nightlife. Probably laptop DJs who've never spun a real record in their life.

Sounds awful I'm sure the normies and meth head ravers will be stoked!

You know what let’s address your concerns for sure. Yeah maybe people haven’t heard about the DJ’s but they are all local guys who are slowly working on their work experience, and for the record have played local shows and smaller festivals. Sound system is being handled by one of the boys that assists in the setup for basscoast and wicked woods. I know the promoter (he’s just the promoter) not going to be spinning. Seeing that this is their first actual event they obviously can’t afford headliners or “big artists”. I would say they are trying their best to maintain the vibe and image of a rave in terms of what’s happening inside the venue itself, low light, ample room for dancing, little seating lounge for breaks and a well stocked bar with some crazy drinks. To my knowledge house and techno music is inherently rave music? Yeah the DJ’s won’t be spinning records but I think barely anyone spins actual records unless they own the gear to facilitate that (doesn’t make the music automatically shit or anything). And as per “Sounds awful I'm sure the normies and meth head ravers will be stoked!” Man that’s straight up you being a cheeky fuck. So as much as I appreciate your advice. There was a much much nicer and cordial way to communicate your feelings. Hope this helps on why I responded the way I did. And lastly it’s “you’re” (you are) not “your” (belonging to someone).

Jokes apart. I hope you find something that you enjoy, the one thing I can agree with you on is that the party scene is devoid of anything resembling a rave. The closest I’ve found was in Vancouver in this awesome little rave cave called paradise (sadly shut its doors earlier this year). And hey if you find something worthwhile share it with us too, I’m sure all the commenters on this post are looking for the same thing 🤘🏽
