Local Resources Do I need a tarp to dump a mattress?

Post image

Like it makes sense that it'd be needed, but for a mattress that I strap in, I don't see what a tarp will do?? I just really dont want to go out and buy one today

No, you don't need a tarp so long as it's secured. I've used a mattress AS a "tarp" in this sort of situation before... strap the mattress down on top of other things to secure the whole load.

Yeah, like the only thing I'm transporting is a mattress which won't blow off easy imo? And so long as strap it I don't see the issue

Edit: spelling

Make sure you wake up your wife before you start driving too. They tend to hate waking up on a roof while you're driving.

It was a dare in the 80’s and we all laughed - even he did (between the cussing. In fact just last week we were laughing about it together. This was in the era if your bud passed out - you grabbed the sharpies or a razor. It was what we did to the featherweights to haze them I guess.

It’s all shits and giggles until someone giggles and shits.

The best part was waking him as he floated away - he’s like WTF ? tried sit up - the mattress folded him under - diver down ! 🤣 Priceless!

Strap it down tightly. At more than 50 km/h, a mattress could be lifted out of a truck by wind and it could fly out and hit another vehicle.

All loads (including just a mattress) must be secured during transport. Ratchet straps from Canadian Tire are cheap.

You don't need a tarp cover on a mattress to transport. Tarps are meant to work as wind-blocks to prevent wind from lifting small debris (paper, yard clippings, etc) and they work as a cover-all. Because it's just a mattress, there is no small debris to fly out. But the mattress should still be strapped down.

I ran over one of those cheap straps with my less than week old car and had a tire puncture, people being cheap cost me a deductible.

You know why you sometimes see mattresses on the side of the road?

They're like sails.

It’s mostly pointed at the morons with a load of pine needles, emptying them all in the roads as they head to the dump, for example.

Yeah... you won't have any problems at all, so long as you strap the mattress down. :) It's a super easy process. You'll be in and out quickly.

Mine blew off in the middle of the road at I was only doing 50km/h. It was embarrassing. Don’t be me. Secure it well

I feel like everyone just ignored the part where you went “as long as I strap it down” lol

How are you transporting it out of curiousity? I stuffed mine into my SUV with the seats down. Are you planning to put it on the roof?

But generally you don't need a tarp and won't get in trouble for it afaik. Just keep it secure on or ideally in your vehicle

No I have a truck thankfully! So was gonna put it in the bed and strap it down!

& thank you so much btw!!!

that was written by someone who have never actually gone to dump

There's a first time for everything. No problem in making sure you understand what's going on before just showing up and being turned away.

I meant the cities "info" I agree with the OP its vague and doesnt help. Read before attacking.

Fair enough... but your comment was also vague. Also, please explain how what I said could possibly be considered an "attack".
