Does anyone know why the stairs aren't open?

It's getting annoying to have to walk through winding ramps when the stairs are there and quicker.

We want to essentially walk down the aisle, say our vows, take pictures, and then leave. Maybe a church? Anyone have recommendations for something like this?

Thanks!

Solo travel

Post image
17 Upvotes

Hello People,

I’m thinking of doing a solo trip and drive around this loop. I was thinking of heading to Osoyoos first and then penticton/kelowna Vernon and come back through Merritt. I’m thinking of leaving early morning on 30th and coming back by 1st September. Maybe spend 1 night in osoyoos and 1 in Vernon or Kelowna. I was wondering if anyone has any recommendations about first come first serve campsite , I did look up hostels and I found a reasonable price but camping would be my first choice. Also if any of you have recommendations for what should in my must see list during the trip.

Thanks in advance .

Local Resources Chess clubs

Hello everyone,

I’ve been living in Kelowna for a few years now but haven’t really had the chance to socialize much with the community. To be honest, I don’t share a lot of common interests with people here, like sports. So I was wondering if anyone could recommend a chess club in Kelowna that I could join—just for fun and to meet new people.

Thanks in advance!

PSA: The Water Treatment Plant off Raymer has been taken over by coyotes

Just wanted to give a heads up that the Water Treatment Plant off Raymer (link to google maps) has at least 4 coyotes living in it. We'd been seeing them off and on for a few months, but now there's fairly consistently a group living in there.

If you have cats or walk small dogs in the area, probably worth avoiding the immediate perimeter for now.

Local Resources Desperately seeking a trommel soil/rock sifter after mine broke down.

Technically: a trommel sifter is a motorized rotating sifter, like a barrel with holes in it. Mix goes in one end, soil falls down through the holes, rocks and stones get punted out the far end.

Got mine from Princess Auto in May, first one broke down within the first day of use. Motor just ceased functioning. Its warranty replacement managed to survive about 25-30 hours of work before it, too, went t*ts-up. Also with the cheap Chinese electrical motor going bye-bye. You get what you pay for, I guess.

Tried to bring it back for a second warranty replacement, but ran into two problems:

  1. The first warranty exchange wasn’t done under the family account, and so the exchange receipt for the second unit is “orphaned” in their system such that they cannot just do a search for it. And I cannot seem to locate the paper receipt. Found the exchange receipt, but it’s still useless because:
  2. They’re totally out of these units until next Spring. And I need one, like, now.

Desperately searching for a trommel-style soil sifter in Kelowna, either to buy or to rent.

I have a few (unfortunate) limitations:

  • This needs to be a mechanically-driven unit, as I have several (8-12) tons of soil to sift and I cannot be doing this by hand. Even with a machine-driven hand-loading trommel I’m going to be spending the better part of 60-80hrs on this project, sifting by hand would likely take 10× as long if not longer.
  • It cannot be physically large, as the room to set up anything more than 2-3m long simply doesn’t exist in two of the three locations I need to work in. And I still have to dance around it using the skid steer, as its bucket is what’s gonna catch the rocks as they come out.
  • It cannot be a tall unit, as while I have a skid steer, it is a mini skid steer. Max dumping height is just shy of 1.8m, and most of the larger units have their hoppers up at the 2m height when they’re packed up for transport. When set up for use, they’re even higher.
  • I have only one-phase 110v or 220v available. With my main property alone, 200a service is still a year or two away, and the other locations are highly limited with regards to available power. So anything large enough to need more than 110/220v single-phase is out of the question unless it comes with its own diesel generator built-in.
  • It needs to separate out rocks down to at least marble size, if not slightly smaller. As such, many of the angled soil sifters - even the mechanically vibrating ones - are out. They’re meant to work with golf ball sized rocks on up - and some even start at softball sized - not small pebbles.
  • Purchase price would have to be under $2,000, ideally $1,500 or less.
  • Rental price would have to be commensurately smaller - likely at most 10% of the purchase price per week or 20 machine-hour blocks of use.

I have phoned through to most of the rental places - Sunbelt, Savoy, United, Cooper, Williams, Sovereign, Pacific Rim, Leavitt, etc. - and none of them have soil sifters of any kind, anywhere in their networks, nation-wide or continent-wide, much less in BC.

Recommended cycling clubs for people who ride gravel bikes at an aggressive pace?

I have recently moved to Kelowna and am looking for a cycling club/group that does gravel rides at a faster pace. Most cycling clubs I have seen/ heard about are mainly focused on road riding.

Thanks for responses in advance.

Mod Post Message from the mods: Stop trying to post the "angry man yelling at woman in building video"

Hi everyone.

This has been a difficult day here on the /r/kelowna mod desk. This video has been posted and removed close to 10 times (probably more, I didn't count).

I want to remind everyone about rule 3 which is summarized as : no doxxing. More generally speaking, that means no submissions that will act as a tool for viral mob justice. We are not here to be used as a vehicle to identify people unless the police post a request for the public's help to do so.

Reddit has a long history of being quick to judgment based on available evidence even when they are wrong and the consequences of being wrong can be quite serious for those involved. So we don't allow it to happen here. Period. Even if it appears cut and dried what the offence is and who is 'in the wrong'.

In a recent conversation I had with another user for this same kind of submission I paraphrased it as similar to "we would rather allow 100 criminals to be free than imprison one innocent person".

The police exist and, as much as people might think they are not doing what should be done, in our society they are the ones that handle crime and investigation. This is their situation to deal with, not ours.

I realize people are upset with us for enforcing this rule on this story. I heard it a lot today. I get it. Nonetheless, it is our rule and we will enforce it. I have been very lenient with the ban hammer today, only a few very egregious individuals got hit because I really do understand people's rage.

From this point forward though, if it gets submitted it will result in a ban for the submitter. I will be locking comments on this post because the rule is not up for debate. I can only hope you can see our reasoning. If you disagree then I understand but protesting by spamming the submission will only get you banned so please don't.

Why is it so hard to make friends here?

We hear it all the time “It’s so hard to make friends here!” But WHY? What makes Kelowna so different?

I have heard many experiences from people who have lived in other cities, provinces and countries, and they all say that Kelowna is the hardest place to make friends - especially deeper friendships.

WHY is this, and what can we do differently?
