Question Dutch media
Hi. I’m struggling with surrounding myself with Dutch media as I’m having a hard time finding things that would interest me. Do you have any Dutch shows to recommend (preferably available on Netflix)? Or Dutch-speaking lifestyle youtubers (preferably women in their late 20s/early 30s)?

Also lubach on YouTube. It has topical subjects to watch brought in a satirical way. And you can toggle subtitles on YouTube if you don’t understand something and rewind.

De Slimste Mens, a lightweight trivia gameshow, freely streamable on our national public broadcast channel: https://npo.nl/start/serie/de-slimste-mens/seizoen-28

These are a few of my favorite on Netflix: Voetbal Ouders, Juf Braaksel en de Magische Ring, De Luizenmoeder, Alles is zoals het moet zijn, Oei ik groei!, Zwanger & Co, Misfit, Haantjes, Yolanthe, Just Say Yes, Liefde zonder grenzen, Kwestie van Geduld and Het Gouden Uur.
I also like watching Nienke Plas, Joyce Rikken, Chef Erik and Darrellsteg on YouTube.
Tip: get a Videoland abonnement for even more Dutch shows and movies.

Not on Netflix, but available for free: https://kinderengeenbezwaar.nl/
A really funny comedy series that aired between 2004-2012. If you're willing to ignore the countless plot holes, it's quite good

You could even follow the NOS journaal in easier Dutch NOS Journaal in Makkelijke Taal

Or jeugdjournaal! It’s made for children do it explains everything very clearly. Still interesting for adults. I watch it all the time.

True, but it actually uses different words which sometimes are more difficult for non-natives. Still if you watch both you might even learn more Dutch😃

Undercover on Netflix is pretty good. You'll moreso hear Flemish accents and dialects but also Dutch ones. There's also a spinoff series and two movies called "Ferry" which are more centered around the Dutch characters.

I think you might do well to subscribe to Videoland. Though the captions are usually only available in Nederlands.
You can watch Celblok H there which might interesting. Second season definitely gets moving more than the first.

Maybe find a specific Dutch talk about one of your hobbies/interests. Boardgames, traveling, etc. You are then known with the subject and translate what you hear a lot easier.
https://www.youtube.com/@UniversiteitvanNL might be interesting.

Lubach is amazing, you can learn Dutch while learning about the Netherlands and having a laugh. It's all on YouTube.
Wie is de Mol is great. On npo.nl for free.
De Correspondent is my favourite news media. They don't provide day to day news, but write in depth essays on what's going on, with great research and while providing possible solutions to problems we're facing.

I watched this in the netherlands and I kinda loved it, "Mocronado's". Might not be your cup of tea, but its just following around old moroccan immigrant men living their lives and asking the question if they ever came to feel at home in the netherlands. Wholesome, short, insightful. Note that a lot of them do have accents due to the nature of the show

No lifestyle or dutch show, but a real nostalgia gem in late 80's cartoon of the wizard of Oz. https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PL4AENc-4nr9Kn9A5SgkRlAZjEBs6Jsc4i&si=ix1JQUmozrTyGFXw They also use southern dialects (brabants, limburgs). they use expressions/sayings regularly that make some episodes funny.

I personally really like these two shorter comedyseries: De Luizenmoeder (The Licemother) Voetbalouders (Football parents)

A little bit of eighties nostalgia and some steamy business and fun too: dirty lines

If you don't mind cartoons, Alfred Jodocus Kwak is a very nice dutch language cartoon made in a dutch, german, japanese colobaration. It has lovely dutch songs by Herman van Veen and touches on still relevant themes, starting out with low stakes themes like what to do when your friend is acused of stealing to modern political themes like apartheid and environmental issues. It is however unapologetically leftist in its perspective.

NPO Start has lots of free Dutch shows, often with Dutch subtitles. It'll help with understanding everyday interactions and pronunciation. I'm watching a show about dogs being trained as guide dogs. We Zijn er Bijna is about a group camping all over Europe. Au Pairs follows 5 Dutch au pairs abroad. De Grannies van Amsterdam is glorious, mature women supporting women. On Netflix, you've got Yolanthe and Anne+ And Boer Zoekt Vrouw and B&B Vol Liefde are very popular.

If you do end up watching B&B Vol Liefde (it's on Videoland), there's a podcast that discusses the episodes. It's called Patrick & Eline Podcast and it's on Youtube, with Dutch subtitles.

Netflix does not have that much good Dutch content. You can better check NPO Start (or Plus).

I’m sorry to say that Dutch movies and shows are terrible. The New Kids movies are fun, so are the Dick Maas movies.
The best Dutch movie ever made, that’s know all over the world, is in English. That’s the Human Centipede.

I'm not sure if you're into reality shows but I've watched several seasons of Wie is de Mol on youtube (with English subtitles) when I was beginning learning Dutch. It helped me a lot picking up the cadence and pronunciation of words.
