Nog VS meer?

So I just learned recently that nog can be and is the correct way of saying more in Dutch as in. Ik wil nog 3 eieren. I always thought meer was the word for more. So when then would you use meer instead of nog?

Nog doesn't really mean more. It means still. It's just that in Dutch idiomatically you don't say "I want another 3 eggs", you say "I still want 3 eggs".

In a vacuum, meer is really the best translation for more. It's just that sentences and especially idioms don't always translate word for word. In most situations it works though:

3 eggs is more than 2 - 3 eieren is meer dan 2
I want more eggs - Ik wil meer eieren
I have more eggs than you - Ik heb meer eieren dan jij
More isn't always better - Meer is niet altijd beter
