Im a very new A1 - A2 learner but have a decent amount of polish speaking mutuals online I want to interact with — do formal/informal rules apply when speaking to or complimenting someone casually online?

When in person you talk with strangers using pan or Pani online you're saying per ty

Don’t make him wrong. Writing or speaking online Pan/Pani form should be used unless ppl use nicknames. Writing to strangers on FB or email using second person singular is perceived simply rude.

When you're writing email sure, we use Pan or Pani, but besides that I don't see anyone using it. Regardless if it's Reddit, thematic forum about history or IT, YouTube comments... everywhere people use Ty. I don't know about Facebook because I don't use it.

No it's not, Polish netykieta is valid since 1990's and using second person singular in social media should not be considered as rude, and if it is, the user is not internet-savvy and does not know the rules of conduct (I would assume them being over 60 at least if they might get offended).

Online nothing applies :) no really online language can be really informal and full of memes and jokes and 'young-people' words. But everyone will appreciate that you're trying anyway so just let them know if you do or do not want to be corrected and try your best, that's all

You're in casual speech. Memes allowed, English words/phrases allowed, etc. Tbh if you'll use Polish words you know and everything else in English you'll be the star and Polish people will cheer you know drzendobły and noone will even mention how butchered was the spelling. Unless you meet total pricks but that's a rarity to avoid not waste time

Unless proof otherwise, assume internauta is ~18yo male.

Boomers services, like Facebook, can be more official, as many people have true personalities.

No. Online you just go with "ty" and don't give a shit.
