University 🎓 How hard is it to get 6 H2s?

So i want to study veterinary and since there’s only UCD here id like to apply for the UK also but majority of universities require 6 H2’s. i’m in 5th year and currently scoring in the 60-90% range with 50s in maths. i do 7 subjects all at higher level. Is 6 H2 achievable? i’m especially worried about maths. is it reasonable to think i can score this or do i need a reality check?

It’s easy if you study and are consistent. You can stand to lose 20% on each paper which is a good chunk, especially if you know the content very well which comes from study. The more you work now the better you’re setting yourself up for success this time next year

as a current 6th year who has always wanted to be a vet, start putting the work in now. i didn't and i hate to say it, but i regret it. however, there are always back doors. my plan had always been UCD for vet med but then had a bit of a reality check and realised that was never gonna happen. my plan now is UL for equine science - significantly lower points which will get me into post grad vet med. will it take longer? yes. but it doesn't bother me as i'm only 17. don't stress yourself out too much. be prepared for things not to go according to plan. if you are as determined as i am to be a vet, you'll find a way in no matter what

you will get there! sometimes life has other plans! my only issue is isn’t there only 10 graduate places in ucd?

equine science is four years which gets me to 2029 so hopefully by then more universities here will be offering vet med 🙏🏼. if not i wouldn't mind moving abroad at that point because i'd be 21 but don't fancy it at 17 lol

oh my God me too lol, I only decided at the start of 6th year that's what I wanted to do after letting my grades drop in 5th year with no goal in mind. Now I'm hoping for either chemical or biological and biomedical studies in Trinity. see you in post grad vet, we'll get there together twin 🤞🤞

600 is realistic with hard work (and luck). The good thing is, you probably won't need 600 points, as long as you're happy to study outside of Dublin.

Both ATU and SETU have announced their intentions to start offering Vet Med as a course. They've estimated that they will be ~40 places in each, and their first intake should be for the 2026/2027 academic year.

Given that the Vet Med places are essentially doubling, I imagine points will be much lower.

Edit: I've just seen your reply to someone say that it's not confimed- it actually is, they just haven't made an official announcement as to when the first intake will be.

It depends on so much. Some people find it easy, for others it's impossible. You should be able to look at your current grades and the amount of effort they require and estimate it yourself

Rly easy tbh, just focus on maths and any sciences you do and you should be good

If you haven't already try and get your experience with different animals done this summer, I didn't know what I wanted to do before 6th year and it was either work experience with animals or get my grades up and I just didn't have time for both

yes i’ve completed a week in small animal and have another two weeks in an equine and small animal hospital planned! trying to find livestock experience is so hard!
