University πŸŽ“ maynooth cannot be THAT bad

i’m hoping now that i get the course i want and go to maynooth, BUT everywhere i look online says things like maynooth is a wasteland, people are slackers etc, likeπŸ˜“

tbh im worried about making friends the most and the reputation that maynooth has online sounds like it’d be impossible πŸ’”πŸ₯€

University πŸŽ“ Are people buying tickets for freshers events?

Long story short i got added to a huge gc with links to tickets to freshers events, which seem to be selling out. I've no older siblings, and I'm also not generally much of a going out person (neither are most of my friends), so i really don't know how the whole freshers week works. I also don't want to already be left behind socially after the first week of college πŸ™ˆ and to add to all that I've no friends going to the same college.

What's the move? Should I be planning events and tickets? Idk what I'm supposed to be at here and I'm not about to be the dumbass asking in the gcπŸ’€πŸ˜

Dublin btw if that makes any odds

University πŸŽ“ Will I be looked down upon for the college I go to?

Hello I was thinking of doing electronic engineering in Maynooth next year, but I’m worried if I will looked down upon on my cv in my later life for it. I’ve heard things about a degree from maynooth not being as good as a degree from ucd or ucc. Now I could be wrong idk but I just would like to know. I chose maynooth because it’s close to me and pretty easy to get into. So yeah any advice would be great guys. Like Idm trying to go dcu or ucc but it’s like 140/160 points more than maynooth so yeah.

University πŸŽ“ Regarding the Round 2 offers

I accidentally put a course I do not have any interest in as my first option. I heard that if you were to give this up you still have a chance to get your 2nd option in the round 2. However; My 2nd option is Engineering in UL. What are my chances if points are not a worry?

University πŸŽ“ Organising notes for college

Hi, I’m starting my degree in maths and applied maths in Maynooth in a few weeks. Just looking for advice on making notes and keeping everything organised. Especially for maths I think my best option is handwriting I have MacBook which I’ll do all my assignments on and stuff but I think in lectures it’s best to write it by hand. I want to keep things neat and organised, I’ve seen some people do refill pads but I would prefer square paper is it okay to use the like hardback maths copies from secondary school and label each copy for its specific module eg one for linear algebra another one for mathematical physics. Any help would be great thx

University πŸŽ“ Not certain how college will be.

As stated in the title I am not sure how college will play out. I'm definitely getting my course and the college I want to go to but I am a bit nervous on how to proceed with college life.

I want to be sure I make friends with people in college and not just maintain loose friendships I have from secondary school. I really want to live the life I felt I missed out in secondary school but I lack in the area of making friends and maintaining those friendships. Coupled with barely knowing how to do that in secondary where it was much easier I am afraid I will fall behind in making friends in college.

If anyone has any advice (or can even understand what I said because I barely even understand it) it would be much appreciated.

University πŸŽ“ Studying abroad questions

Hey all, I’ve just started 6th year and am looking into college courses. I’m super into physics and applied maths and have top results in them and I want to pursue something to do with them but Ireland doesn’t offer super good physics universities. Trinity ranks the highest in Ireland in physics only being #108 worldwide. British universities are super expensive so I’m considering other European countries but I’m worried on the language side of things. Has anyone been in a similar spot/ know someone who has been and has any advice? Is it worth going abroad or should I just go to trinity?

University πŸŽ“ Question on appealing a result which could impact if I get into a certain course or not, depending on whether the appeal boosts me up a grade or not.

I am currently on 366 points, about 1 point behind my 2nd choice on my CAO list (DC009 - Arts: Joint Honours). Now, say I ask for an appeal for one of my exam results, which could potentially bring me up to 377 points, but this appeal would not happen until around Sunday. If Round 1 for CAO offers were to happen tomorrow (Wednesday), and all of the places were filled for my second choice, and I wasn't given an offer, but then Sunday came, and then I got enough points for my second choice, what would happen?

University πŸŽ“ Missing the start of uni?

So basically I’m going on a familly trip from Sep 6 and I’m coming back Sep 18(could be after as well). This was planned for a longg time so I can’t cancel. What I’m asking is do I miss much in uni or will I be at a disadvantage if I miss the VERY start of uni(pretty sure I’ll miss around a week or 2 of uni)? I’m just very worried rn. Cause I heard that sometimes uni starts earlier or even later than the semester start date but I really dont know. And I tried getting out of going on the trip but I can’t so🀷. I really wanted to meet people from my classes at the start and I’m just scared that when I come back late I’ll be at a disadvantage there, like not knowing anyone in my classes, where my classes are, etc. And what’s the story with the student IDs? I heard that you also have to go to uni early to get them but idk. And should I say something or email to the uni about me missing the start cuz I’m planning on going to either DCU or TUD so I’m not 100% sure yet.
