Comics Mystery of Penquan Island - Official Discussion Thread Spoiler
FULL SPOILERS allowed in this thread. As a reminder spoilers for this comic outside this thread must be marked until a month after the book is released.
"Mystery of Penquan Island" is the first LoK one-shot graphic novel. It takes place after the show, and focuses on Mako. The comic releases March 4th. It is written by Kiku Hughes with art by Alex Monik and Diana Sousa, made in collaboration with Mike and Bryan.
Description:
Mako and Bolin set off towards Penquan Island in the Fire Nation to find answers to a case—and maybe a little bit of their past along the way. When a strange missing persons case falls into his lap, Mako is forced to choose between his job and doing what he feels is right! An upturned room and an unhelpful witness aren’t promising starts to the investigation, but when his brother Bolin comes across a surprising clue that ties their own mother to the case, the pair embark on a journey to the small, rustic island of Penquan. The island’s inhabitants seem to have things to hide, and the brothers are determined to get to the bottom of it—even if it means uncovering uncomfortable parts of their family’s past.

Humour Korra’s PTSD arc if it was truly realistic…
If I was Korra I would lowkey earth bend a hole and live there until the next harmonic convergence.

Question Would Korra have been a good sibling?
I noticed that Korra doesn't really have a brother figure and I can't unsee it (kinda sad about it too ngl) so I thought of asking what do y'all think Korra would be like as a sister? For the sake of diversity let's say it's either an older or younger brother depending on your preference.
I'm interested in understanding how do you view being a direct blood relative to the Avatar would affect someone and their view of things.
Personally I imagine her to be the cool sibling who tries to uphold an image for her younger brother who genuinely thinks she's the coolest person alive.

Discussion Why does Asami get mad when Korra raises the possibility that Hiroshi might be manipulating her?
I think I know, but I'd like to see some discussion about it.

Discussion The Zapellin scene is incredible because Lin needs to hit the metal, feel the impurities with her seismic sense, make a hook movement with her hand and tear the metal with great force and brutality, like her mother didn't do, because at that time there was no metal made to be bent.
Some people complain about how metalbending has become too fluid, losing the brutality of the past, but I think this is one of the coolest world-building factors in this series. This shows how bending culture evolved because they created an entire material made with impure metal to be easier to bend, it was created with so many impurities that it became completely malleable in metal bending, to the point of becoming almost liquid. And seeing the difference between metal bending made with the equipment specified for this and that made with random metal is very satisfying. This shows how intelligent the earth kingdom is

Discussion background music and chinese influence in LoK
i was watching LoK (specifically the second last episode of season 1) when my mom from the other room asked me if i was watching a chinese dance show bc the music sounded similar
i just thought that it was cool that the team behind LoK incorporated other chinese elements other than just the text in the signs and such
and regarding the signs and chinese text i’ve asked my dad multiple times what it means and it all makes sense (like for a caution tape it had like “republic city” written on it and something else, the banners of the equalists has the word “balance”, etc.)

Discussion Let’s say Tonraq never left the north, would he or Senna still give life to the avatar?
Or is it really just down to chance who’s giving birth when Aang dies lmao
Like what if no one was having babies in the water tribes? Would the next avatar just never be born?

Discussion How do you think an interaction between Bolin and Korra's family would be?
I feel like it would be a nice interaction where Bolin is kind to Senna and respects Tonraq

Image What makes a good group
A reminder that after not seeing each other for 13 years and freeing themselves from prison, the first thing the Red Lotus did was go shopping together for their new villainous outfit and get a haircut before committing their terrorist attack on the Earth Kingdom. This tells us that if we're going to do something, we have to do it with style. ✌️

Discussion The ending of book four should have been a fight of sue and kivura
Think about it all this season had been about sue not being confident enough to take leadership of another nation , so it was this calamity which got our villan where she was and sue could correct her mistakes
