Discussion The Zapellin scene is incredible because Lin needs to hit the metal, feel the impurities with her seismic sense, make a hook movement with her hand and tear the metal with great force and brutality, like her mother didn't do, because at that time there was no metal made to be bent.
Some people complain about how metalbending has become too fluid, losing the brutality of the past, but I think this is one of the coolest world-building factors in this series. This shows how bending culture evolved because they created an entire material made with impure metal to be easier to bend, it was created with so many impurities that it became completely malleable in metal bending, to the point of becoming almost liquid. And seeing the difference between metal bending made with the equipment specified for this and that made with random metal is very satisfying. This shows how intelligent the earth kingdom is

Lin is a total win, and I do like a lot of the detail when it comes to how each person in LoK bends.
Definitely might rewatch the series just for that, sometime soon.

My favorite part of that scene is how she goes into a full earthbending stance before doing it, reminds me of earthbending from the first series and how much bigger all of the bending was back then

I mean uncle iroh said it best, the earth kingdom people endure and how do a PEOPLE endure? With knowledge and innovation

Wait a minute... Toph did the whole "take down an airship with metalbending" thing too in the Book 3 finale.
What I did miss was Lin pulling this. You would think the metal suit is her primary choice against chi blockers because it pretty much hard-counters the opposition, and she has plenty of metal to make a suit out of, but no, she doesn't do that. It is actually kind of strange how she flat-out just loses, gets her bending removed, and Tenzin and his family are captured by the Equalists anyway, so her sacrifice is rendered completely pointless.

I love love LOVE brutal, active bending. Making claws hands to tear at earth, whipping your arms around to snake water back and forth, it feels so grounded and real somehow

Honestly what bothered me about Lin was how she seemed to neglect basic Earthbending
Like when the Equalists attacked her (when the Airbender kids had to save her) she kept relying far too much on her metal wires that she knows they can zap her through, instead of just making the earth at their feet move and trapping them etc

Aang could do that easy peasy

Usually folks would bring up Aang in reaction to any seen avenue to diminish Korra, so it's wild to bring Aang up when this moment was solely about LIN.

Not really. Aang had difficulty learning earthbending, and Korra was the first metalbending Avatar.

I had never considered that, but that makes total sense. We know that the Equalists were well aware that metal benders were a threat so made things out of platinum but even LoK’s fantastic version of that metal probably isn’t great for making a Zepplin. But they would still, and with Hiroshi would have the means, want to make their equipment resistant to bending.
Whereas say the armor of the police officers is very clearly custom made and they would make it out of something easily done so. We see from Toph’s bending of meteorite in AtLA how some relatively impure metals could be fluidly bent even back then.
Thank you, I had always wondered why Lin seemed to have more difficulty in bending the Zepplin but it make total sense now
