Day trip to Liechtenstein, from Zurich or from Vienna?
We are vacationing in Zurch and Vienna. We’d like to take a day trip to Lichtenstein. Would it be better to take this day trip while staying in Zurich, or while staying in Vienna?

Definitely Zurich! Vienna is about 760km away. Zurich only 111km. Less than 2hours by train.

It's really easy from Zurich, I've done it twice. Train to Sargans (multiple throughout the day), bus to Balzers if you just want to cross the border, or the bus goes on to Vaduz if you'd like to see the capital city.

You could have answered this question faster by going on Google Maps than the time it took you to write this Reddit post

When I read this I thought it’s either a troll or an American. It was an American.
That being said: Vienna of course, you can take an uber directly from Wiener Prater to Liechtenstein, its a leisurely 7,5h drive. Then you can spend 30mins in Liechtenstein and head back. Makes for a nice day trip. :)

Be careful, you want to end up in Liechtenstein, not Lichtensteig. Small difference in orthography, huge difference in cultural influence.
That said, definitely Vienna:
- Liechtenstein is absolute monarchy, in which Austrians have tons of experience, and Switzerland virtually none
- language of Liechtenstein is more similar to Austrian than Swiss German
- legal system is a mix between Austrian and Swiss, with the former having slightly more traction
- Liechtenstein shares a larger land border with Austria than Switzerland, so it is easier to cross
- Liechtenstein has Spezi as has Austria, while Switzerland only has Rivella.
P.S: if you decide for Zurich, and settle for Lichtensteig, check out this superior cultural influence.

At least he is right that Liechtenstein alemannic is more similar to austrian alemannic then to swiss alemannic, isn't he? I don't speak an alemannic dialect, but the dialect my relatives in Switzerland (they are even from very near the border region to Liechtenstein) speak sound very different to the dialect of Liechtenstein, whilst the dialect in Vorarlberg sound very similar the Liechtensteinian one.
If we compare the standard german of Austria and Switzerland, i guess both are very similar. My relatives from Switzerland often come up with typical swiss standard german features which differ from Germany's Standard German and at least those were most of the time the same in Austrian Standard German, but both differ in those features from Germany's Standard German. But i think the Liechtenstein Standard German does orientate itself on Swiss Standard German.

Nope, FL German is much closer to Swiss than it is to Austrian.
Western Austria does have an alemannic dialect, thats true, but it‘s high alemannic, while FL and CH use highest alemannic.
It‘s a subtle but very noticeable difference.

Most of Switzerland does not speak highest alemannic, only the walser dialects of southern Switzerland and in Vorarlberg are linquistically highest alemannic. Most of Switzerland speaks High Alemannic though.

That is true, I apologize.
Btw, I don't think there are many left in Vorarlberg that can still speak Walliserisch.
