I finished Lost

Lost is the best piece of TV i have ever watched, Holy shit, From the Pilot all the way to the End, Perfection, I've watched Breaking Bad, TWD, Dexter, Sopranos, BCS, and so many more, but i haven't seen a show so consistent, S1 Was So good, S2 even better, S3 was perfect, and so on, the time traveling era was so funny and awesome, Man makes me cry every time i realize i will never experience lost for the first time again. also can we talk about the End? it was perfect.

absolutely. there’s so many posts on here from people saying like “just finished lost, what do i watch next?!” and there’s some good suggestions, but lost is really something special and the only way to fill that void is to watch it again. it is such a well executed and written show with excellent casting. peak tv maybe

i wish i could watch it for the first time again

I posted something just like this some 5 years ago, recently finished it again and was about to post something similar, until I realized I had already. There is nothing quite like Lost. A true ode to what a show should be.

Part of what gives this show great rewatch value is the gorgeous cinematography set on the real world island of Oahu. Hawaii really is paradise and its ethereal beauty shines through the cameras, from rugged mountains to lush jungle streams and waterfalls.

It's especially fun for those of us who live there/visit frequently to spot which scene is filmed where on the island. I have so much fun with this especially when they make really creative choices eg the North Africa/Sahara scenes are filmed in a quarry! I knew this right away because it's the only place on Oahu that looks like that.

As someone who lives there (how lucky are you?!!!), would you say you have to take a tour to see all the filming locations or can you do it independently? Have no plans at the minute to go sadly, but really would love to get to see these locations for myself someday!

3

u/LawFrequent1353 8h ago

You can totally check out the filming locations yourself but it's probably more fun to do a tour with other Lost fans.

For example this tour is still running: https://youtu.be/bPAO-s-qewU?si=FAwwD0-x_qF3naR0

If you have time for just one filming location, then definitely go to Kualoa ranch! You will recognize many scenes filmed there including Hurley golf course. Plus they sell lost souvenirs at the gift shop. Kualoa is a popular visitor destination on Oahu with spectacular views. it's worth going regardless of the Lost connection.

Thank you, hopefully I will get there someday!

Nothing will ever compare to it. I love the sopranos and breaking bad, and I think they’re hard to compare bc they’re really different formats and themes, but the characters, their arcs, the ending, it’s just like a work of art to me.

I think shows like those are more technically perfect, but they don't reach the emotions that lost does. The way we get to live with and know the characters. I also think Lost's imperfections make it more human

I absolutely loved The End. You'll see there are a lot of folks are very critical of it for some reason.

I thought it was a tad predictable... but it was absolutely perfectly done and was a perfect ending to the show.

Be sure to watch the epilog on YouTube "new man in charge"

2

u/Normal-While917 18h ago

I cried watching it. Both times.

3

u/Human-Shirt-7351 19h ago

I remember when I first watched in 2015. I was on vacation for 2 weeks, the weather sucked. Ended up Binging Lost the whole time. Then I turned around and watched it again at a more casual pace. To me the second watch through is always the best. Cuz you just picked up on so many little things that you missed.

I've since watched it through 5 more times.

u/trusty20 18h ago

It's highly rewatchable, you'll notice new things even the third time around. I watch it every few years, never gets dull

2

u/AndrewAka19 11h ago

I wouldn't put it at the level of BCS, Breaking Bad or The Sopranos, neither the original Dexter show, but yeah i get what u're saying

2

u/molleensmrs 6h ago

May I recommend another show?

Dark on Netflix broke my brain. It’s the second best show after LOST.

u/Ominous-Avocado-3000 3h ago

I have good news for you. Yes, it’s true, that you will never experience lost for the first time again. But… The good news is that I recently watched it beginning to end for the second time. Several years in between the two viewings. The second time was actually significantly better than the first time. You think it’s not going to be as good since you know most of what happens. But this show is so many levels deep that you discover things on the second viewing that you didn’t notice the first time around. And the things you discover are much more satisfying the second time.

To this day , I'm still trying to find something as good as Lost ...

u/volcanomonster007 13h ago

Try From, i believe one of the Lost creators are involved with it, couple of actors from Lost are in it too. Ive enjoyed it so far.

1

u/Petrichor02 4h ago

None of the Lost creators are involved with it. One of the Lost directors played an executive producer role, IIRC, and one of the main actors from Lost is a main character in From, but that’s all.

1

u/Excellent_Panda_5310 2h ago

I watch the credits constantly and there's more than these people involved, lots of LOST alumni

1

u/falcon41098 19h ago

Just finished today too! I definitely disagree about it being better than Breaking Bad and Sopranos but it was certainly one of the most entertaining television experiences of my life

u/Striking-Access-92 19h ago

Oh, man. This just got me so excited to watch the whole thing all over again.

1

u/Technical-Sherbet630 18h ago

Wait till you watch it 4 or 5 times and still notice new shit!

1

u/testuserhgf1 17h ago

Just finished yesterday

1

u/MatchAggressive5378 16h ago

You should watch attack on titan

1

u/PhotosByVicky 13h ago

I rewatched it earlier this year. The ending made so much more sense to me this time around. I loved it so much!

1

u/mdluk1909 10h ago

It's the greatest show ever and for me it has the most moving and intelligent ending ever. The ending is so under appreciated!

1

u/tanyamp 8h ago

I loved that show. I watched the whole series in a month!

1

u/smoomoo31 7h ago

Next up: Battlestar Galactica. Similar feel IMO

1

u/Kolanoot 7h ago

Oh man, I’m halfway through the last season for the (l think) 7th time and I still love this series. My main serie is the walking dead, I also like Dexter and Game of Thrones. If anyone has any suggestions to keep me from the void, let me know!

1

u/fevredream See you in another post, brotha 7h ago

I also recently finished the show, and was impressed by its overall quality all the way through season 5 or so. Sadly, I found season 6 to be a massive step down that retroactively made the cracks in seasons 4 and 5 appear much worse. I know this isn't a popular opinion on this sub (although it is popular beyond this space), but I sadly can't consider Lost to be in the same league as The Wire, The Sopranos, Breaking Bad, BCS, or Mad Men. It's more like Game of Thrones, in that it has incredible seasons that are majorly let down by the latter part of the show. (I'd also consider GoT's highs to be higher than Lost's. Salt in the wound, I know.)

u/EvenTheRocks_UIM 5h ago

I love seeing love for LOST, and when others realize this is indeed the best piece of television in history.

u/BoringJuiceBox 5h ago

A legendary masterpiece of cinema

1

u/Alternative-Theory81 4h ago

Every time I rewatch it, I see something that I missed in earlier watches that are relevant Easter eggs later.

1

u/HighlightFirm5563 20h ago

OP - you are correct. It is so perfect. Please go watch “the new man in charge” on YouTube. 12 minute epilogue that was on the bonus dvd. Answers a couple questions and it’s just another 12 minutes u didn’t know u needed

1

u/frogs68 19h ago

Yes, nothing can compare to it.

-5

u/KoncepTs 19h ago

Idk lost is up there but Breaking Bad is much better especially ending wise. Unless you like series endings open to interpretation..

1

u/heavenswiitch 19h ago

breaking bad has a good conclusive ending that is expanded upon across better call saul & el camino but i think losts ending is just as good but in a different more wholesome way

-1

u/KoncepTs 17h ago

Better call Saul is its own series that built off of breaking bad but was in no way anymore conclusive in how BB ended

El Camino also was a stand alone and barely expanded on the BB conclusion. It was already insinuated Jesse got away. We just didn’t see how.

All the smoke and mirrors at the end of lost with island keeper, purgatory, when someone actually died vs when they didn’t is just so open to personal interpretation.

Like I said, if you like those kind of endings sure, you’ll like Lost more, but even then, you should probably like sopranos more.

I know it sounds like I’m shitting on lost but I’m not. I’ve watched thru like 7 times and it’s in my top 5. From my personal experience the average person doesn’t care for personal theory endings. They like when it’s conclusive.

2

u/heavenswiitch 17h ago

idk i disagree breaking bad has the original ending for walter white but bcs shows the aftermath & el camino is the finale imo. great show but honestly to me lost is better. i dont think breaking bad could ever have a wholesome ending as its just too dark for that, but to me losts ending is better i liked how it brought characters back that we cared about. worst ‘best’ shows finale will always be dexter for me

1

u/AndrewAka19 10h ago

I get it, but there's no between them, bcs and breaking bad are superior in every way. Lost is great as well, just not at the same level

1

u/KoncepTs 17h ago

You could get away with not seeing the aftermath in el Camino, we know the main character died on the floor of the nazi meth lab. A lot of Camino was just filler as well, like Jesse’s time as a prisoner of the nazis

Dexter had 2 horrible endings.

Drive off into the hurricane and end up a lumber jack and then ‘killed’ by his own son. New blood was such a good series until the last episode too.

Resurrection made good on it though. I won’t give anything away but when I first saw commercials with the star-studded cast I rolled my eyes saying it was a cash grab but it was actually great from start to finish this time. MCH is the one who suggested they “fix” new blood ending

2

u/heavenswiitch 17h ago

yeah i live in england and just am super not bothered to pay for paramount + so gonna binge both of the ones after the og show when i have time. also super awesome kristyn ritter is in bb and dexter now

u/kuhpunkt r/815 11h ago

What do you mean?

1

u/Potential-Rush-5591 14h ago

They are such different shows. It's really hard to compare them. Within their genre, they are each one of the best. I think it's virtually impossible to pick the best show. Instead it's each of the best in a certain genre. For example, there is:

The Wire - The Soprano's - Lost - Breaking Bad - Better Call Saul - Justified - DEVS - Foundation - Shogun -

All are some of the best shows I have ever seen.

I'm sure there are plenty I am forgetting. But they are some of the best within their own genre.

0

u/KoncepTs 14h ago edited 14h ago

Well, I’m not the one who brought them up. OP did and as a lostie that’s watched thru more times than I can actually remember, I still believe BB is better through and through. Including the ending. That’s what actually makes BB better for me. Personally.

Didn’t care for the whole purgatory thing, especially when it wasn’t explained that well and a lot of parts were left open to interpretation.

2

u/Verystrange129 Whatever happened, happened. 12h ago

Breaking Bad had the best and most satisfying finale of all time IMO. As an overall show, I would probably say it was better written than Lost, but I enjoyed Lost more. Comparison is always very subjective but the same shows keep coming up showing their long lasting quality.

0

u/NewRetroMage 17h ago edited 16h ago

Lost is fuckin' amazing. And it's a delight every time a new person say they loved it.

And while that's obviously subjective, kudos for saying it's even better than Breaking Bad. The overall reputations of both series is that BB is "the perfect show" and Lost "was ruined by it's ending" (and similar stuff).

I love when someone doesn't care about some of the "taboo" in the world of pop culture. And, gosh, Lost gets an unfair bad rep until today.

Anyway, tell us a few of your favorite moments!

u/abelnik 15h ago

Lost is simply a world apart, it is something wonderful, there are great series but none like LOST

u/Swimming-Bonus-2104 15h ago

I literally just finished and I have to say I’m quite annoyed. The ending was completely bogus. THATS the ending?!?! Wtf. Why did I waste my time for that.

I truly feel the show dropped off around season 4. 1-3 were amazing and then it just really became apparent they were reactive writing rather than methodically planned and the final season tried to tied up loose strings but missed several.

1

u/lost-james 5h ago

The ending was completely bogus.

What do you mean?

1

u/kuhpunkt r/815 11h ago

The ending was completely bogus. THATS the ending?!?! Wtf. Why did I waste my time for that.

Care to elaborate what the problem is?

1

u/FringeMusic108 6h ago

What is it about the ending that would make the rest of the show a waste of time?

Unrelated trivia; seasons 4 to 6 were the ones that were planned out. It was the only way, really, with the flashforwards, time-travel, etc. The first three seasons were when the writers were struggling to figure out the plot for every next episode (though I personally do agree that those seasons were better overall).

0

u/fevredream See you in another post, brotha 7h ago

This sub is majorly into apologia for the obvious reconning/reactive writing nature of the later seasons, and especially the pretty atrocious season 6. I'm right there with you, though.
