Discussion Mafia 4 should not take place in the 1970s
I don’t think making mafia 4 set in the 70s should be the way to go, it is just too early especially cause mafia 3 didn’t even feel like a mafia game and mafia 4 should probably take place in the 1920s during the prohibition era and Leo Galante should be the main protagonist.
What would a mafia 4 even about?

Big disagree. You dont think we have enough of leo galante? He has a mystique about him, we dont need to ruin it and play as him. And if you dont think thr 1970s would feel like a mafia game then just watch goodfellas, casino and donnie brasco. Then come back and see if you feel the same way, those movies take place in the 70s and are peak mafia cinema

I think a great thing to do would be Los Ondas '70s or '80s, right as Rico starts suffocating the mob, you play as a Capo in charge of some rackets and territory, and you could have Leo's death kind of being a turning point in the game. Where all of our characters that are alive show up and kind of connect the dots.

I think old country isn’t even gonna reach enough sales to where mafia 4 can have the money to have 1970s song in the game but what hangar 13 could do is forget about Vito and Joe and all this other stuff and just make another trilogy with new bosses and characters

That's unrealistic, mafia toc is a financial success, mafia de sold around 2 million copies it's its first month and it wasn't as much of a big deal mainstream wise

I'm tired of old timey mafias. They either do 70s Vegas, or they do 80s/90s "End of the Mob" era. If they do decide on 70s vegas, i just have to hope and pray they flesh out the open world. not being able to explore and interact with vegas attractions would be depressing and a total vibe killer.
Problem is, t2 wont give them the budget to make it happen. We are stuck with linear faux open world mafia games. Which sucks because the source material is great, but they are limited with what they can do with it.

Probably Mafia 3 didnt feel like a mafia game because you did not play as a mafioso

The amount of amazing 70s-90s mob movies to pull from are fantastic templates to why this would actually work so well. Mafia III didnt feel like a Mafia game because of so many reasons other than the year it was set.

Mafia 4 should take place in Empire Bay in the 1930s and the 1970s
Dual time periods like that one Driver game.

Between 1980-2000, the end of the Sovietunion, changes in democracy, new demographic questions.

I love Leo, but I don’t understand why everyone wants a game about him, having him show up in a game is fine and makes sense, but having a game all about him is rather lame. I’d like to see why and how he got into jail, but I don’t need a whole game to give me that story, I’d like something new, wouldn’t mind the 20s or 70s but I’d like another new location tbh

I think either would work, I'd like to see a game in the 70s or 80s focused on RICO and stuff

70's and 80's had some major mob events so it makes perfect sense. Problem with mafia 3 not feeling like a mafia game wasn't the setting or time period, for me it was Lincoln being dressed in army clothes in every cutscene and his right hand man being more of a CIA type of dude.
