Mellieha catching an Uber/Bolt at 7 AM?

Hello guys,

I am currently on a holiday in Mellieha. Sadly our holiday ends on Monday. Our plane will take off about 9AM.

My question is, will it be possible to catch an Uber/Bolt on monday at 7AM?

So far catching Uber/Bolt is really easy, but I am afraid about the really early hours, because if we can’t catch any then we can miss our flight easily.

Also, as far as I know we can schedule a ride in Uber and Bolt as well, but to be honest, I,ve never used this option before, so I don’t know which option should be better on Monday 7AM morning.

Yes, it is possible. Just schedule it, to be on the safe side.

I don't really commute from Mellieha, but given that it would be Monday during peak traffic hours I would suggest that you book earlier. Traffic might easily double the commute time to approx 1-1.5hours if something happens, and since it is the time a lot of cabs are booked for work it might take a bit longer for a cab to accept the ride. Maybe someone from Mellieha who commutes to the south might give you a bit more specific timings.

I would leave at 6am personally, a single instance of trouble anywhere along that route means you miss the flight. Better to be at the airport bored than stuck here.

Living in Mellieha, I catch Bolt vans at 3 AM to go to the airport. So not an issue.

Tomorrow set the alarm at 7am and look on the app. If you find taxis on a Sunday, you will find them on a Monday.

Why would you compare Sunday with a Monday?

Shouldn't really be a problem to get it on demand. To be on the safe side, just give yourself like 15-20 min of extra time and make the request earlier rather than later.

I mean 7am on a Monday can be peak traffic hours so you may find some traffic. Mellieha and the airport are on opposite ends of the island. You can also schedule a ride beforehand.

I would try leaving a bit earlier. On a work-day you might find traffic within work hours on considering you have a bit of a stretch it might delay you a bit.

Just to be safe. As others have mentioned scheduling it is the safest bet.

Don't get an Uber last minute, they rarely come on time and they have a tendency to cancel on you. Schedule it ahead or get a Bolt.

I would get a Bolt in any case, super efficient.

Have a scheduled transfer from bolt at least 48 hrs.

Thank you everyone for the answers. I scheduled a bolt to 6AM, in case it doesn’t work I still got time to hunt down an Uber or something. Thank you again!

Yes very easy to find, but definitely do not book it for 7am. If your flight departs at 9am, I would book it for 5:30am or 6am, from Mellieha to airport it will take around 1:15-1:30hr due to traffic or whatever else might happen. If there's an accident anywhere along the way you could take up to 2hrs. It's better to arrive early and go for breakfast or something in the airport then arriving late.

You will have absolutely little difficult at that time. Apart from bolt and uber there is also ecabs all pretty much in the same price range. As a bit of an aside the same taxi cars operating day time work night time as most taxi cars operate 24x7 across multiple there a shifts.

It's doable. But I would leave a tad earlier than 7, something like 6:30. If there will be problems on the road, you can miss your flight.

you need to be at the airport at 7am not leave from Mellieha. leave by 6am to be safe

UPDATE: There are literally ZERO drivers now :( We are in the streets since 5:50. I also scheduled a ride days before on Bolt, nothing. Uber, nothing. We contacted the hotel reception and they can find us a taxi but of course for higher price.

So for the future, if anyone finds this post. The conclusion is a big NO, finding anyting on monday morning is kinda impossible…

Well the good old white taxis work for tourists needing airport transport, so that was your safest bet. You were pretty unlucky with the whole bolt/Uber. Hope you had a good stay, safe travels.

P.s. white cabs drive the fastest, hold on.

Actually it was Billy’s, but yeah he drove like crazy 😂 But saved the day so salute to them/him!

We really loved Malta, so all in all excellent holiday!
