With a gaming pc, a lot of the second-hand prices are so high that you may as well buy new. It may be more expensive, but there's less risk and no wear and tear.

For consoles, CEX is probably your best bet. There are a lot of mixed opinions about them, but they're the last big player on the high street. Plus, if anything goes wrong, it's easier to get redress from a large company.

There is still GAME, but they tend to be a bit of a ripoff.

Aside from that, there is Facebook Marketplace, but that is about the same as going to a carboot risk wise.

CEX can be very variable IMO.

Always buy online if buying from CEX. That way, you have the distance selling consumer protections in case something goes wrong, instead of having to work out if it fits the warranty criteria or not.

someone on a forum I'm on (not here) bought a GFX card off them - which didn't work, they insisted it was fine and wouldn't refund them. so the purchaser said I'll trade it in. they refused that, said the card wasn't working properly. 'well which is it then?' was the immediate question. eyeroll they did end up getting a working example off them, but cheeky c**ts.
