What are these round wooden balls on my live oak?

Not nests, just galls. Wasps lay their eggs under the bark, part of the cycle of life, not a real problem for the tree

No long ovipositor on this guy. I'm no gall expert but I don't think I've seen any of the common ones with a large ovipositor.

Idk what kinds of wasps make these galls, not an expert in that field, but the ovipositors are usually for drilling through bark.

Yeah I know what you're saying. I'm just saying I haven't seen any with a long ovipositor.
