Recipe Recipe for a really good veggie burger?
Does anyone have a really good recipe for a veggie burger? Or a great MD friendly store bought recommendation? My family does a Bobs Burgers “burger of the day” about once a week and I’m trying to avoid red meat as much as possible (high cholesterol!) Thanks!!!!

I’ve been making this buffalo chickpea veggie burger for years. One of my all-time faves and I made it again just yesterday.

These are really good. Somewhat labor intensive, so would recommend making a big batch and freezing some. https://minimalistbaker.com/easy-grillable-veggie-burgers/

There’s a cookbook called Vegetarian Meat and Potatoes (or something like that) and it’s got a bunch of veggies burger recipes, including one with walnuts in it and it’s the best veggie burger I’ve ever had.

I had this at The Boiler Room several times when it was open and have made it myself at home with great success.

Based on https://sallysbakingaddiction.com/best-black-bean-burgers/
INGREDIENTS:
- 1 can of black beans
- 2/3 cup of flour
- 1 teaspoons of onion powder
- 1/2 teaspoon of garlic powder
- 1/2 teaspoon of ginger powder
- 1/3 cup of chopped onion
- 1/3 cup of chopped carrots
DIRECTIONS:
- Open the can of black beans and empty the contents into a mixing bowl.
- Mix in the onion powder, garlic powder, ginger powder, and other spices you wish to use.
- Mix in the flour.
- Mix in the chopped onion and carrots.
- Line the cookie sheet with a layer of aluminum foil, a large sheet of parchment paper, and 4 small sheets of parchment paper.
- Scoop roughly equal amounts of batter onto each of the 4 small sheets of parchment paper.
- Bake at 375 degrees for 25 minutes on one side.
- Flip the burgers and bake them for another 5 minutes. The small sheets of parchment paper make the burgers much easier to flip.

You will always be better off making your own. But there is a brand out there that's better than most. "Actual Veggies" has 3 or 4 different versions that I've heard of. Technically they are processed but the ingredients are about as clean as you could hope for. No seed oils and about 320ish mg of sodium per pattie. I haven't tried them I just heard about them the other day. I guess if you need something that takes little effort it might be the way to go.

Technically they are processed
Fortunately that's true for any meat-free burger, both store-bought and homemade.

My favourite. https://cookieandkate.com/best-veggie-burger-recipe/ Since I'm not vegetarian, I fry in bacon grease.

I've made the Lentil Walnut burgers out of the Moosewood cookbook for 30 years. Still love 'em and always get compliments

Try asking a local restaurant that makes a good veggie burger for their recipe. I’ve never had anyone say no. I’m also very type B and eventually lose all my recipes so I don’t have any to share, sorry 😅.

I don't like actual veggie burgers, my go-to for burgers are the $14/8 beyond cookout (box) burgers. A little higher in calories than the $7/2 package but no cholesterol and tastes great to me

My fav veggie burger is a grilled portobello mushroom on a toasted bun with goat cheese (or cream cheese) spread and a roasted red pepper (from a jar or can packed in oil). Trust.

There’s some great recipes linked but if you’re ever in a pinch my two favorites in the freezer section are Dr. Praeger’s California Veggie Burger and Amy’s Sonoma Veggie Burger. Both have great ingredients and taste delicious. The Amy’s do great on the grill but the Praegers are better in a pan (they’re a bit softer).

If you're feeling lazy and want to buy pre-made ones, these are very tasty https://www.aldi.us/product/earth-grown-vegan-southwestern-style-chipotle-black-bean-burgers-4-count-0000000000002462

Are they good? I loooove Boca burgers for how they taste and their low calories.

Yeah I like them a lot and they are inexpensive. I like to add a bit of Worcestershire sauce and cook them on my cast iron grill pan. I sautee some peppers, mushrooms, and onions to go on top

If you like black bean burgers, then give this one a try - https://sallysbakingaddiction.com/best-black-bean-burgers/. I love it.
Then for already prepared choices, we like the green one of these - https://actualveggies.com/pages/our-burgers-1 with Ras el Hanout on them and then either tsatsiki or a topping with lemon and yogurt on them and on a bun. They do not taste like meat, but we really like them this way. It was a Purple Carrot recipe that we just make ourselves over and over.
If you like an actual meat taste, then we like Impossible or Beyond. I think Beyond now has burgers with Avocado oil.
Haven't made a pure veggie burger from scratch though.
