Anything with liquor is considered a “mixed-drink” and would still be subject to 9% sales tax+ 24% extra
Beer and wine still suffer the standard 9% sales tax. So “my $9 glass of wine costs $9.81 big deal.,. But two of those $12 cocktails is gonna cost you 30 dollars before tip.
This is where tipping on pre-tax subtotal might actually become pertinent. Sure it’s a lot easier to just tip on the total -// but if I’ve got 20$ worth of state and local taxes that weren’t really part of the service /// why do I want need to cover 4$ more to the server?
Former US service industry. It’s complicated lol.,
At any rate—It’s a far cry from our neighboring state of Louisiana where purchasing alcohol out is just a small, normal tax amount. Nothing worth writing home about.
Even up here in Missouri with all the stupid tax districts doesn’t have that. There’s a non insignificant liquor tax. Sales tax in my city is 7.95% and I think I paid 10% on a bottle of liquor. It’s still a mindfuck for me in terms of the sales tax part because I’m from Maryland where there’s a single state sales tax at 6% and no local tax districts.

I think it might be the whole state or close to it. It’s like 4(!) separate taxes stacked up. Convoluted Bible Belt bullshit. (Arkansas)
State, county, and city sales taxes: The combined sales tax rate in City is 9% (6.5% state, 1.5% city, and 1% County).
City mixed-drink tax: 10% on mixed drinks sold in restaurants, bars, and hotels.
State mixed-drink tax: An additional state tax of 10%.
Supplemental state mixed-drink tax: An additional 4% tax that benefits the University for Medical Sciences.
In the right area you might get it down to 27.5%!
