Damn guess they realized no one wanted to pay to save their streaks or unlock a new AI filter

These fucks require a subscription to change your notification sound from messages.

No they don't? At least not on Android.

true, i hate this phone, when the screen gives up im going Nothing 3a

35

u/AthlonPhantom 4d ago

I've had the 3a for a month, after having the OnePlus 5 for almost 8 years. Great phone, case selection is terrible.

u/nopelupe 4d ago

Oneplus is so damn good have used oneplus for 7 years now and cant imagine changing from it.

Who uses notification sounds in the year of our lord 2025, I’ll get to it when I get to it. Hell my snap notifications are off all together

1

u/CanadasManyMeese 4d ago

Tbf. They had dark mode long before android, which was locked behind snapchat plus until last year 🙄. Ridiculous

I set Snapchat to have a specific sound on Android and it kept changing it back to the default sound. Very unfortunate. You do have to pay to have individual contacts have their own unique sounds though. Regardless of OS

4

u/Cornelius-Figgle 4d ago

it kept changing it back to the default sound. Very unfortunate.

Indeed.

22

u/Illustrious_Donkey61 4d ago

I changed my notification to silent by uninstalling

39

u/ExoticManiac_ 4d ago

These fucks require a subscription to change your notification sound from messages.

This is the moment when Android supremacy reigns once again, you can change individual notification sounds straight from the android side of Snapchats settings, no need to pay for anything, as it should be.

Pay for it once and find the one you want to keep, it stays permanently, same with chat wallpapers and some of the other personalisation things, i just paid for it once got my stuff set the way i like it and kept it since

644

u/naumen_ YELLOW 5d ago

You lost me at "Pay for it"

12

u/Emergency_Error8631 4d ago

to be fair it is like 0.59€ but yeah id rather not

2

u/Th3Gr4ndWizrd 4d ago

Honestly fair enough lmao 😂😂 i literally only wanted it cause of a halloween background for me and my wifes chat

65

u/JLL1111 5d ago

I'd rather delete the app than pay for something like that which should be free

How bout no? Pay for social media? Absolutely not a single penny for any reason

21

u/BackroomGuy1 4d ago

Especially when they harvest so much data they have a whole ass profile of you on top of the ads shown EVERY other scroll

I wasnt telling you that you have to i was literally just saying if you want the customization you can get it and it stays after your subscription runs out, my whole point wasnt to sell the stupid snapchat subscription, i was just replying to the post about it, jesus christ

You're the only other person I've ever heard of who's used paid Snapchat. I only had it for a month when my partner bought it for me as a gag gift and pretended that was my birthday present.

2

u/Th3Gr4ndWizrd 4d ago

I mean yeah its just a small thing that is very unimportant and doesnt matter but its nice to have the background so me and my wife paid for it one time and its just stayed a halloween background

4

u/rsandio 4d ago

Yea I get that. I've still got the background with my partner too. I didn't realise it was from when I had a subscription. Surprised we're all still using Snapchat when apps like Whatsapp do things like that for free.

2

u/Th3Gr4ndWizrd 4d ago

Eh i just dont like going through the hassle of making a new account and checking if all of my people use that app, along with sending them my info, its just an inconvenience and i dont mind snapchat, i dont like some of the stuff but the stuff i dont like i dont use or look at so im happy

They're getting desperate lol, next thing you know they'll charge us to open the app without seeing ads for their premium features

3

u/Aidan503 4d ago

To be fair I might have paid to save a streak once or twice. Around 2300 days at the time, currently on 2682

3

u/Flashy_Hat_9264 3d ago

They're really going full corporate cringe mode lately, next thing you know they'll charge us to use our own camera app

11

u/AlmostSunnyinSeattle 4d ago

I didn't realized that people were still using this app tbh. Haven't even given it a thought since I deleted it

22

u/uuser8675309 4d ago

So because you deleted it you forgot that it was the top 3 most used social media in the world? You’re so cool bro

13

u/StuckWithThisOne 4d ago

I kinda get what they’re saying though. Snapchat was something my friends and I used religiously every single day for years, everyone saw everyone else’s story every single day…now if I redownload it go on there (which I only do to find old pictures once in a blue moon) nobody is even uploading to their stories anymore. There used to be hundreds, now there are none. I get a bit of a jump scare when someone mentions Snapchat IRL now. Like the ghost of my past lol. In the U.K. everyone I know has switched to WhatsApp and Instagram now. No one asks for your snap anymore.

4

u/survivorr123_ 4d ago

its not even top 5 lol; facebook, instagram, youtube, tiktok, whatsapp, messenger... if you count china there's like 5 other apps

Ah yes, nothing like your photo getting a surprise autograph from Snapchat.

312

u/AppleNatives 4d ago

They're just letting you know they own the rights to the photo now.

74

u/freakshowmassacre 4d ago

Do they actually? Like genuine question, but that shit sounds scary

146

u/Theory_of_Time 4d ago

Pretty much all social media has the same TOC when you sign up.

You own your images, but the platforms get broad, free, global rights to use them however they please. For some like Facebook, that includes any photo you have already deleted.

I noticed this for the first time two days ago when I tried saving a photo. It’s such bullshit. I used the clean up tool on the iphone camera app and got rid of it no problem but like come on Snapchat… that’s just being unnecessarily cunty

u/Pizza-Pockets 4d ago

Thank you for this! Worked like a charm

Wonder if this is iphone only. At least for now. Same thing happened for some for screenshots on Twitter but was apparently iphone only.

Just tested my Samsung s22 ultra (android 15) and it didn't have a watermark. Twitter still doesn't do it either and it's been months lol.

Was the image saved to camera roll or screenshotted?

2

u/KillaFellaSmella 16h ago

it’s when you save it to your camera roll, i also have an iphone and use the cleanup tool to counteract the watermark

Remove it, most phones have the feature and there arent many details in that area

Truly mildly infuriating though

757

u/BumblebeeBuzz1808 BLUE 5d ago

I just took a screenshot instead of saving through Snapchat, which gets rid of it

480

u/ArtistApart 5d ago

You took the words out of my mouth, all they did is teach people how to do a screenshot.

74

u/Dotcaprachiappa 5d ago

Honestly doing the public a service

50

u/Quizzelbuck 4d ago

Eventually they'll secure the app so it can't work on unlocked bootloader phones and can't do screenshots. Like banking apps

6

u/Furdiburd10 4d ago

You can bypass that by enabled screenshots on restricted apps in the android dev settings - unless they start using a DRM like netflix to block screenshots

4

u/CVGPi 4d ago

Disable_Flag_Secure is very ROM dependent, not all devices have that option

u/tractorcrusher 5d ago

Can’t you ask the person who took the photo to send you the original photo? Or was the photo taken with Snapchat for some horrible reason?

28

u/bananslickarn 5d ago

Some people take photos with Snapchat because their phone is already full so they can save them

5

u/LeebleLeeble 4d ago

I only still have snap cause for some reason, that app is the only one who wants to use the full potential of my phones camera. Even just using the normal camera app makes any pics i take look like theres a filter of sand on top.

12

u/Jacktheforkie 5d ago

iPhones have a major flaw where if the storage is full you can’t delete photos

8

u/tractorcrusher 5d ago

wtf? Lemme just use this app to take photos that I guess I don’t care to keep because my potato’s memory is full.

Save the pic to ur memories. Go to your memories and click the share button, then save image. When saved this way it doesn’t have the watermark

Well Snapchat was betting you wouldn't think of that...

43

u/Krybte 5d ago

Sorry could you say it Like im 5? im tired stupid and Not a native english speaker

84

u/WillingStan007 5d ago

the app devs at snapchat are assuming if you use snapchat enough, you'll just pay to remove the watermark rather than use your regular phone app

23

u/Thebenmix11 5d ago

And some people will, which is why they do it. Sometimes I think I'd make more money as a scammer.

10

u/jdog7249 4d ago

It amazes me the people that use Snapchat as their camera app on their phone. After taking a photo you have to press an extra button to save it.

Or you could use the normal camera app and it saves every photo immediately (bonus points I am pretty sure you can still send it through Snapchat if that's your goal).

3

u/_sabsub_ 4d ago

I learned that in this thread... Just makes me realise how different of a bubble we live in. I had never heard of that before or even had the slightest idea that someone would use that instead of you know your phone's camera.

2

u/fusion_reactor3 4d ago

I mean, some people use third party camera apps that offer more features, but I can’t say I’ve ever heard of someone using Snapchat over the default app

4

u/z6oul 4d ago

the app honestly has a lot of good filters (that actually don’t change your entire facial anatomy!) if you dig, so i usually take selfies on snapchat instead of my phone

→ More replies (1)

2

u/Asle_ 4d ago

the quality of the picture you take on Snapchat is also much worse than your phone's camera app!

20

u/Talcove 4d ago

You’re snapping someone and like the pic enough to want to keep it?

12

u/knavishkittyy 4d ago

I use it instead of my camera app cause for some reason tbe default app on my phone is incredibly laggy, so if I'm on a call or listening to something in the background—which I almost always am—everything crashes. Snapchat doesn't so it's preferable for me.

6

u/passrevoked 4d ago

Sometimes pictures come out better with Snapchat instead of my camera app

3

u/Character-Truth-7577 4d ago

My camera has filters that I have to turn off every time I use it. Snapchat, I have to turn the filters on. I want to remember my life as authentically as possible, not with filters!

I use Snapchat because you can save pictures and back them up without needing more storage docs. My icloud hasn’t been backed up in over a year but Snapchat always backs up lol!

129

u/Ekalips 5d ago

Never understood why people don't just use their phone's camera app to take photos...

82

u/No-Poem-9846 5d ago

For photos I don't intend on sharing with people right away I use my phone camera. But my family and some friends use iPhones and, despite the fact I have literally seen them say they fixed the quality issue between iPhones and android, every media I send or receive via texts from them has like 4 pixels. Snap is faster to share with multiple people and when they open it there, there's no degrading of quality. That's just me personally. Haven't had this issue of a watermark yet, but won't bother me much since it's 90% cats lmao.

26

u/D3ADFAC3 5d ago

The quality issue you speak of happens when the phone has to fall back on SMS to send pictures.

In order to fix it both parties need to have RCS messaging enabled. This requires the iPhone to have iOS 18 or later. It’s also possible the carrier doesn’t support it (unlikely if in the US tho)

4

u/No-Poem-9846 5d ago

Oh that makes sense because they all have really old phones. My friend told me to make sure the RCS was enabled and I can't even disable it on my phone 🤣

8

u/MonkeysInABarrel 4d ago

Wait why not just use a messaging system that’s not SMS ass? WhatsApp, messenger, ig, signal, etc. all support high quality image transfer

10

u/D3ADFAC3 4d ago

Because I shouldn’t have to have an account with a company that sells my data to send things to friends. RCS is well supported by all major networks and can send full quality images and video.

→ More replies (1)

5

u/Dracoster 4d ago

Because all of those are banking on your content.

2

u/Ekalips 5d ago

Probably I don't have enough friends or/and don't share nearly enough photos for it to be an issue.

Also on (many) Androids you can open the camera app by double pressing the power button which makes it way faster than opening any other app, so for me personally I would rather get to the (full) camera 10 times faster than spend one less click on sharing. Also the camera app has more features than any in-app camera thingy, features that I use. So yeah, that's me.

3

u/Roses_and_lillies7 4d ago

Sometimes I take a pic for snapchat and then I like it so I save it before captioning

1

u/Gunslinger_247 4d ago

For some reason snapchat focuses better than my phone camera

1

u/stinkiestredditor 1d ago

Some people take snaps to send to people and then end up wanting to save the photo I’m not sure why you’re stupid but please stop doing it

1

u/Yagirl27 21h ago

I don’t have to pay for icloud storage on Snapchat!

53

u/TheHolyPopo 5d ago

Sounds like a great time to stop using Snapchat

7

u/MesoamericanMorrigan 5d ago

I swear to god it only exists for nefarious purposes and anyone who asks me to install it wants to do something dodgy

11

u/Justwantl0ve BLACK 4d ago

Weird. I just tried it cause I couldn't believe I hadn't seen it before, and it didnt do it for me

20

u/Beinghomoiskindagay 4d ago

I even pay for Snapchat Plus and I still can’t remove the watermark? What’s the benefit of throwing a watermark on there if you can’t pay to remove it

10

u/Collembolans 5d ago

That’s so stupid

6

u/benh97 5d ago

Use the magic eraser tool in your photos app to remove it

1

u/Cycy7106 12h ago

How do I do that

6

u/Ooobaby1995 4d ago

This is why using Snapchat is stupid

10

u/Meighok20 5d ago

I downvoted, then remembered where we are

9

u/jevans1111 5d ago

I never get why people use Snapchat camera over their phone's camera,

And with this now it will baffle me more

14

u/spinosauruspecs 5d ago

Some people prefer the softer camera even without filters. Also many phone cameras will “flip” the photo after taking it while Snapchat does not.

4

u/jevans1111 4d ago

The camera being flipped is a setting, on my samsung its save selfies as previewed

Or something along those lines

2

u/Few_Library3961 4d ago

i use snap for pictures on top of my phones camera just cuz i take a lot of pictures and using my phone camera clogs up my storage faster than snap

u/kennybrandz 5d ago

There’s an app you can download called retouch that will let you edit that small part out if it bothers you! I believe it’s free as well, was the last time I used it.

5

u/JojoDasJojo 5d ago

you can try to download ALL things that they have in your account. in the eu it is mandatory that you are able to do that. maiby there are no watermarks on these then.

4

u/Funny_Energy5240 4d ago

They have said they only do this on AI -generated images. Did you use AI to alter the looks in some way before saving?

→ More replies (1)

6

u/pereuse 5d ago

This only happens when you save AI photos to your camera roll. It doesn't have a watermark for non-AI edited photos that you download from Snapchat. It's a good idea because it's getting harder to spot AI edits in photos.

2

u/evac95 4d ago

Not for me, happens on all photos shared to me through Snapchat now

2

u/NeckRoFeltYa 3d ago

Got rid of Snap a while ago. If anyone does, make sure to login online and download your data then delete your account. That way none of your pictures are saved. I was very surprised by the number of pictures it saved. Had 3 GB worth.

Never want someone to go back and hack your online account and grab the pictures in 5 years.

If you have any modern phone just make a copy and zoom in very closely to it and use the ai remove feature to get rid of the watermark, most Samsungs do a good job, if you have any experience with Photoshop try that, a quick tutorial will help you out or ask one of the Photoshop subreddits to help you out, most do it for free

1

u/zidanerick 4d ago

If you use snapchat for items you don't want saved by whoever is on the other side then just don't send it. Screen mirroring and other methods can be used to capture the images without you even knowing, they could even be broadcasting it and you wouldn't even know! As for images that you do want to keep I wouldn't be using snap to do this either, if you have an iphone/android generally you can setup shared photo albums that can even sync to your widgets if you wanted them displayed on your chromecast etc...

1

u/dangerdude132 4d ago

Haven’t updated Snapchat in forever. Cant give me a watermark if they don’t force me to.

Last time they forced me was to shove the AI chat bot down our throat

1

u/the_whole_problem__ 4d ago

crop it out for now, or use ai to replace it

1

u/ppfart699 4d ago

can i get rid of this shit with premium?

1

u/rsandio 4d ago

It's only meant to be added to photos that have had AI effects and changes. Gemini and a few other AI generators do this too. Hence the sparkles on the watermarked logo to indicate effects used.

1

u/RyeBreadElux3500 3d ago

Is this an iPhone thing? I saved pictures on Snap just this morning with no watermark?

So is there a way to remove it?

I can always tell if I took a picture on Snapchat because their camera software is absolutely horrible! I have a Pixel 9XL that takes beautiful photos, but if I take it on Snapchat it looks like I'm taking a picture with a $50 phone from Walmart.

that’s weird I barely use snapchat but wanted to check and mine doesn’t have a watermark, I even looked on the app store and my phone is updated

I deleted Snapchat when I started getting notifications like "I crave you" and "last night changed my heart" from spammy accounts I had no interaction with and no mutuals with. It was relentless, multiple times a day. My good-natured, trusting partner and I had a good laugh over it, but that shit is going to get someone killed.
