Hi guys,

I'll be travelling to Montenegro on May 19th to May 23rd. Frist night will be spent in Kotor, and then the rest of the week in Budva.

I've got some questions / seeking recommendations so I'll take any answers to any questions please!

Looking for car rental - what's the most reliable, budget friendly company? I will be arriving in Podgorica.

Nightlife - what should I expect?

Food - what are some must try national dishes, what restaurants do you recommend? I dont want to be cliche, but I'd love to avoid tourist traps.

Language - i loved in Croatia for 6 months so picked some up. How far will it get me in Montenegro?

Hidden gems - recommendations for lesser known spots and things to do? I'd love some local knowledge.

If anyone has any extra bits of information or tips they'd like to share, please be my guest!

I'll be going with my girlfriend, so ideally some romantic spots / activities / ideas would be great.

Hvala!

Rental really depends on what your budget is - you can find a car for 30-50 bucks per day

Nightlife in Budva is shit for me personally because I'm a rave kind of guy. Expect a lot of balkan music

Try Burek - Davidovic bakery makes the best one, at least by the coast. Gurmanska pljeskavica - on your way to Kotor from Podgorica, stop by Roštiljada restaurant. It is a traditional, local BBQ place that has normal prices and amazing food. Avoid eating in the old town of Kotor, the food is atrocious.

What does "picked some up" mean? If you know how to say "Hello/Thanks/Goodbye" it will not help a lot. Budva is a tourist hotspot, english should be more than enough

Climb the Kotor ramparts, but not the main, tourist entrance, rather climb the walls and go towards the southern Gurdić gate. There you will find an old passage leading to the walls. It is not maintained but the views of the city are 10 times more rewarding in my opinion. Visit Arza fortress if you have the time. When in Budva, go to Kamenovo beach, it's beautiful this time of the year and they have a nice bar with an amazing view.

21st and 22nd of May are holidays - Independence day. Expect stores not to work. The road from Tivat airport almost to the city of Budva is being renovated. Expect a lot of traffic.

When visiting Montenegro, be sure to try some of its most beloved national dishes like prosciutto, local wine, priganice, kacamak, and the famous patispanj cake. A visit to Cetinje, the historic royal capital, is highly recommended—you’ll find charming restaurants serving authentic Montenegrin cuisine there. You should visit the museums in the city (it is best with a guide). The Lovćen is another must-see destination, with stunning views and rich cultural significance (if there are no clouds up there you will be able to see the coast of Italy).

I can also recommend some great places to eat in Podgorica and Nikšić since I live there. How long do you plan to stay in those cities?

If you speak Croatian, you'll find it quite similar to Montenegrin, so communication should be smooth. For breathtaking views, don't miss the cable car ride from Kotor to Njeguši—it's especially magical at sunset or on clear days. Just make sure to bring something warm, as the temperature can drop quite a bit up there. Also, check the weather forecast before you go; when I last visited, it was sunny and warm in Kotor, but cold and foggy in Njeguši, and the clouds completely blocked the view.

Remember that May 21st is a national holiday in Montenegro, so it’s a good idea to check the working hours of shops and attractions ahead of time.

If you need more information I am here.
