Question Is 1,400 euros per month enough?

Hi everyone,

I'm just wondering if this salary would be enough to live in Montenegro?

It's less than I've made in other countries so just curious.

The avg salary is around 1000€. I am just curious how people afford the rising high rent in MNE? Since many UKR and russian moved there and moved rent prices up.

The median salary is more accurate and it is around €800-900

I hope you know the definition of “average”. Can’t be 1k if we count few of exceptions of salaries that are 5k and more. Most people earn minimum wage here, barely 900€.

900 minimum ? Not 700 ?

If you’re trying to ask what’s a minimum wage here, without a degree it’s 600, and with a degree it’s 800€.

You can easily rent a good place for around 500, bills 100-200, food ~300-400, and have fun with the rest. If you live a normal life its pretty good

Thats your first mistake even considering budva in the first place

Its enough if you don't have to pay rent to be honest.

It also depends where in Montenegro you want to live.

In Podgorica you can live, apartments are cheaper as well as transportation, bus lines exist and are fairly reliable, food is cheaper, etc

If you want to come to the coast, nope

Currently no way you will find anything below 500 bucks, taxis are a literal scam, groceries are 20-30% more expensive than in the capital

You could in theory, if you are a frugal person and do not go around with taxis too much, but it will not be comfortable unfortunately

Depends what you’re paying on rent. You’ll be ok but prices have gone up a lot in the last few years

It's enough to make ends meet, if you are frugal. Rent is high, food is expensive, so are clothes ( comparatively, right) ; then you probably need to pay health insurance, get a car/ pay cabs, phone, internet etc... Many locals live here on less, but they own their homes and get a lot of produce for free from their 'villages of origin'. Also, usually at least 2 people in the family work ( it's not uncommon that 2 or even 3 generations live together), so the bills are shared.

Depends on where you are, 6-7 years ago you could live on 500 EUR a month( which I did ). If you are in a smaller village then no problem, in a touristy place it's very hard and the country has gone way overpriced since all the russians came

It's enough, it's not wow you have so much money but you can certainly spend it well

To me it would be more than enough. But then again I live in Podgorica, have a flat and not expensive car (or rather my husband has 😅).

Like I am happy enough to survive somehow with 800-900. If you own a flat or a house with such salary it’s great. In my opinion (and I’m not needy) 1400 would be more than enough. Unless you like to spend the money like a water.

(And I’m from a country where 1400 euros could be considered as some average salary, depending on the city)

It depends on your habits. I'm earning a bit less and provide for the family of two + two cats. I won the apartment so no rent, with the rent we'd be more stressed but still about get through.

If you're alone, depending on exact location, and your habits (neither me of my gf are particularly keen on having crazy night life for example), you may live comfortable with that amount.

M perents live with 700e per month so i think you would be okej

I don’t think I live in the same country as this entire thread

You’ll be more than happy with this salary enough to be really comfortable you’d have at least 600-700 euros of disposable income after all bills are paid if you live in Podgorica and if you’re a bit more careful about where you rent if you don’t already have a home and if you don’t live alone even better since you’ll be splitting the bills

It totally depends on your lifestyle choices and where you want to live. In Niksic you will be more than comfortable with that monthly amount; in Budva or Tivat you will need to cook your own food and make your own coffee to make to the end of the month and can't afford a car; in Bar you will be OK without a car.

It's not enough to get a digital nomad visa, you need to get 1500-1600EUR to afford that. Even then, with 1500EUR, you can barely survive on the coast, wouldn't call it a life. And Podgorica is waaaay less pleasant during, well, any time of the year. A literal hellscape in summer. Just keep it in mind that any town in Monte without a sea on the horizon will feel much more boring. 2000EUR is enough for an average living, you'll be able to buy good clothes if needed, order delivery twice a week and travel to EU twice a year without stressing about it too much.

Definitely, for non expensive lifestyle yes. But not that you'll be able to save much.

Must be a trollpost. I live on 650E in Serbia.

2

u/Graven_Ashe Podgorica 21d ago

Why a troll post ? Also in Serbia depends where .... in Belgrade it's almost impossible if you're renting ... so same here, if OP wants to live near the coast 1400€ may not be enough since around 800 will go to rent and utilities. In central part such as Podgorica he may have a better chance since groceries and utilities are cheaper, and rent is around 550€ on average. How do you manage with 650€ is beyond me, unless you have your own house/appartment.

1

u/BrrrManBM 20d ago

I got my own apartment in the furthest manucipalty of. Belgrade, and utilities rarely exceed 170E. My mom brings in a little bit, like 1000-1500 a year, and she along with the farher takes time to shop cheaper. I rarely spend money on small things, so it's managable that way. My largest expenses are a meal at reataurant with gf, a ticket for a makeshift field trip, or a "toy" her or there. Rarely anyone would call that "living", but to each their own.

Brate sa 650 moze svakako, ako imas svoj stan sto sam i rekao ... ali mi opet zvuci nenormalno da uspijes da se prehranis, da izadjes za curom u restoran itd.

Ako zaista usp8jes sve to, svaka cast.
