I’m sorry. July 20th is bad day to meet when the planets are in the positions they are.

I won't be participating but I love Resto Vego, I remember when it was the vegetarian restaurant chain Commensal in the 90s. Great place and fun to buy my meal by the kilograms...

Astrology should be treated like the scam it is

11

u/Gusstave Jul 11 '25

Yup.

Religion too.

22

u/MortyMcMorston Jul 10 '25

Who cares. Just let people be happy. There are worst things out there

u/thebluewalker87 🐿️ Écureuil Jul 10 '25

The lack of critical thinking of those who believe in astrology often flows onto other things, ex. antivaxxers, superstition, voting for idiots, etc.

This is an insult to rational thinking.

10

u/Aoae Jul 10 '25

For those curious, check out the wellness to conspiracy theory pipeline. Both prey on and validate people with a distrust for scientific and social institutions.

6

u/No_Calligrapher6912 Jul 10 '25

It's a scam that preys on people.

3

u/MortyMcMorston Jul 10 '25

Yes it is. But most of the people who do the activity don't take it seriously. For them it's just a fun hobby that allows them to socialize.

There are MUCH worse scams out there

-1

u/No_Calligrapher6912 Jul 10 '25

There are MUCH worse scams out there

So what? We should let the astrology scam slide because there are other worse scams?

I guess we should let physical assaults slide too because after all, murder is worse?

Go away.

Lol you've written 14 comments on this so far. Obsessed much?

1

u/No_Calligrapher6912 Jul 11 '25

Almost all of those are responses.

0

u/PommeCannelle Jul 10 '25

So is capitalism

1

u/No_Calligrapher6912 Jul 10 '25

Brain rot comment.

0

u/queenguin Jul 10 '25

lol there are bigger issues in life...

0

u/No_Calligrapher6912 Jul 10 '25

Yeah, and? Still a scam

0

u/Halfjack12 Jul 10 '25

Explain

7

u/No_Calligrapher6912 Jul 10 '25

Astrologers scam people into paying for "readings" that are completely pseudo scientific nonsense.

-1

u/Halfjack12 Jul 10 '25

Astrologers charge people who want a reading, in what way is someone paying for a service that they want a scam? You might have a point if astrologers pretended to be something they aren't, or if they misrepresented their services, or if they sought out people and manipulated them into buying services they wouldn't have otherwise.

2

u/No_Calligrapher6912 Jul 10 '25

astrologers pretended to be something they aren't,

They do. The whole enterprise of astrology is completely bullshit. The positions of the stars has in no way at all any tangible effect on our day to day lives.

-3

u/Halfjack12 Jul 10 '25

Actually, most astrologers are typically concerned with just one star. It's mostly about the planets, constellations, moon phases, and Hellenistic deities. It seems like you don't know a lot about astrology, have you cobsidered that might be why you are so mad about it?

7

u/GreatLaminator Jul 10 '25

"They are typically concerned with just one star"

"It's mostly about ... constellations..."

Eh? Are we playing semantics between stars and group of stars to prove a point?

-3

u/Halfjack12 Jul 10 '25

Did you get the point?

2

u/No_Calligrapher6912 Jul 10 '25

Lol, I'm not mad about it. It's just a scam, and should be regarded as such.

I have more than enough scientific education to know that I don't need to know any more about astrology to confidently say it's all bullshit.

-1

u/Halfjack12 Jul 10 '25

What do you know about it?

2

u/No_Calligrapher6912 Jul 10 '25

I don't need to be an expert on leprechauns to know leprechauns aren't real. I don't need to be an expert on alchemy to know alchemy is bullshit, and similarly - I don't need to be an expert on astrology to know that the influence of planets, a star or stars, Hellenistic deities (lol) have absolutely no tangible effect on anyone's life at all.

It's pseudo scientific nonsense that anyone in 2025 should be ashamed to believe.

1

u/Halfjack12 Jul 10 '25

Uranus in Gemini begs to differ 👻

But seriously no one who has actually studied astrology would say that so im not sure how valuable a ln opinion from ignorance is.

I'm a beginner photography, but I'm in to learn more about astrology👍

5

u/mocantin Jul 10 '25

4

u/VinylHighway Jul 10 '25

lol a club devoted to nonsense

-12

u/8SOR Jul 10 '25

So, the influence of cosmic entities emmiting electromagnetic waves and exercising their gravity on us, and thus influencing our behavior, makes less sense to you than the precise chaos that led to this exact moment ?

13

u/VinylHighway Jul 10 '25

The doctor that delivered you had more of a gravitational effect on you than the moon

10

u/No_Calligrapher6912 Jul 10 '25

Tell me you're scientifically illiterate without telling me

-6

u/8SOR Jul 10 '25

that's the funny thing, I do love science, I just don't think it's incompatible with spirituality.. A little faith dosen't hurt, too much of it does, and so does none of it.

12

u/No_Calligrapher6912 Jul 10 '25

What you said was completely scientifically illiterate.

5

u/VinylHighway Jul 10 '25

What scientific basis do you have for astrology being remotely real? Are you familiar with Carl Sagan? Extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence.

0

u/WoodenGlaze Jul 10 '25

I'd be down to show up, give it a shot.

2

u/AstroMontreal Notre-Dame-de-Grâce Jul 10 '25

That's great! It's a small/medium size group of us discussing various aspects of astrology. Hope to see you then!

It is a lively discussion! Let me know if you intend to come.

0

u/hail_robot Jul 10 '25

Hey I'd be possibly interested! What day? Do you have an fb group or anything I could follow?

2

u/AstroMontreal Notre-Dame-de-Grâce 11d ago

Hi! Just to let you know that I recently created a fb page where I'll be posting future meetups.

1

u/hail_robot 11d ago

awesome! can you post or dm me the link to the page?

1

u/AstroMontreal Notre-Dame-de-Grâce Jul 10 '25

It's on July 20th. We used to be on Meetup for several years, but due to their exorbitant price increases, we decided to pull out. Unfortunately, there's nothing set up for now for people to follow. Let me know if you're able to join us, as we need to reserve the space.
