Discussion Do you pronounce it Toronto or Tronno?
I have had meetings with a few people from Toronto who keep calling it Tronno. How do you pronounce it? I am asking in this group because: - I live here - French Quebecois pronunciations could vary from Tronnians

Same. It’s like saying Muntreal instead of Mawntreal. Or Vangcouver and not Van-couver. Or Oddawa.

It depends on the social context and rate of speech:
Speaking carefully in a formal context: Toronto /tərɑnto/
Speaking in a more relaxed context: Teronno /tərɑno/
More relaxed and faster speech: Tronno /tʃrɑno/
Speaking quickly in casual context: Tronna /tʃrɑnə/

Originally from northern Ontario. We say “Tranna” jokingly and everyone knows we mean Toronto. More professionally we say “Toronno”

People that live in Toronto generally pronounce it Toronno, anglos that live outside of Toronto pronounce it Toronto, with the second T. I’m originally from outside of Toronto but I lived there for 5 years.

If a person utters one or even two hard T’s in Toronto, or says Toronto with MORE than 1.5 or 2 syllables, that person is NOT a Torontonian.
In fact, if an English speaker in Ontario is using hard T’s at all, most likely a foreigner. Or worse, american. (KEEP ‘EM OUT!)
“Water” is pronounced and also sounds like “order”.
