Arts/Culture Really disappointed by the cover up of a cool mural on St. Laurent

The first picture is before, the second is after. The original mural was iconic, a really expressive stand-out piece in the neighborhood by Danae Brissonnet and Poncili Creacion. People used to stand in the mouth for a photo op. The new mural to me is just uninteresting and way too 'safe,' like the cover of a generic tourism brochure. It doesn't feel like a reflection of the culture in Montreal.

Arts/Culture Hamilton the Musical: Actually got Attitude Back when I Told Someone to Stop Singing Along in the Theatre

As the title says, I told someone beside me to stop singing along in the theatre. Granted they were only singing aloud like the last 3 to 4 words of each verse, but enough times for me to definitely feel it was distracting and annoying.

They did stop after I asked them to but.... Then come intermission I get yelled at by the girl's dad who was beside her (she's in her 20s btw so it's not like I was scolding a child or anything): "ITS A FREE COUNTRY YOU KNOW, SHE CAN SING AS MUCH AS SHE FEELS LIKE"

It was just absurd how they actually thought they were in the right and even got aggressive at me... I really do wish the show would have an announcement beforehand to advise against singing along, but like at what point is it just common theatre etiquette. Or eventually we are going to end up having an hour long pre-show advisory of all the things you shouldn't do...

Skip to 19:30 to see my art, but watch the entire segment, there's a lot of wonderful art to see.

I've been posting my art on this sub for a couple of years. Just when I thought I was done making my miniature models, my girlfriend posted some of my work. Half the comments said to apply to the annual Infoman show. I want to thank you all for that, because the episode just aired, and my latest piece was featured!

You can see it in person at the Écomusée du fier monde. It's open to the public from April 18th (today!) to the 25th. There are a lot of tiny details and easter eggs in there, so you'll get more from seeing it in person rather than in photos/videos, like the murder scene in the CRAQ dispensary, or the advertisement for children's kevlar vests from Canadian Tire.

I'm so happy to present to you all

Apocalypse Montreal: Plaza St Hubert

My biggest piece yet (and possibly ever), it stretches 9 feet long, depicting a near-future riot as it erupts along one of our city's most historic streets.

I used my shrink-ray to cram in as many details as possible, from the Bell Systems manhole covers to the street art and graffiti from our more infamous taggers/graffers/artists. In keeping with what I feel is end-stage terminal capitalism, I made this from your garbage/recycling and 3d printing. My inspirations for this piece were the Maple Spring of 2012 as well as recent headlines. I wanted to depict Montreal as I see it at its best: angry, and too loud to ignore.

Our history of protest and dissent is something I feel proud of, and would like to see more of throughout Canada.

So please check out the Infoman episode, enjoy the pictures, and be sure to check out my insta for more reels and 'making of' shots. I'll be making more art in the near future, destroying the city that I love one building at a time. Thanks again so much for all your support. <3

Mais my god, LES GENS.

Arts/Culture Wtf is going on at the christmas market?!

Went to the christmas market at place des arts with some friends this year and was floored at how much drop shipping booths there are!! Last year there were a few but definitely more artisans.

I am not kidding, if you are going to the market, please don’t buy any of the $35 jewelry when you can just order it on aliexpress for like $2.00! What an embarrassment for a city filled with so many talented artists! (I know the reason its mostly dropshippers is because of the entry costs for the vendors, but come on!!!! This is ridiculous!)

Acrylic 16 x 20" by me.

I’m thrilled to share my latest painting, "Laundry Day in Montreal!" Growing up in Montreal, my brother and I played hockey in the laneways, avoiding the need to yell "CAR!" Every Monday was Laundry Day in Montreal, yes even in the winter .... bringing in those frozen cardboard clothes...brrrrr! Hockey has been a passion of mine since I was 4, watching games with my Dad on CBC Saturday nights. While I may not play hockey anymore, I’m proud to celebrate the rise of PWHL women's hockey alongside the NHL....It's been long overdue! As an energetic 65-year-old artist and avid hockey fan for both NHL and PWHL, I’m excited for our women's professional league. I hope you enjoy my painting!

Please don't sing along. Please. You don't need to prove that you know all the words, I already believe you. I want to hear the lyrics AND the orchestral arrangement.

If you were planning to sing, please reconsider. Movie tickets are so expensive these days, don't ruin it for other people.

16 x 20" Acrylic on Birch Block Gallery Panel by Me.

Hasidic history in Montreal began in the early 20th century, particularly after World War II, when Jewish immigrants, including Holocaust survivors, settled in the city. The Chabad-Lubavitch movement was among the first to establish a presence, expanding significantly under Rabbi Menachem Mendel Schneerson in the 1950s. Other Hasidic groups, such as Satmar and Belz, also formed communities. Today, Montreal has a vibrant Hasidic population, with neighborhoods like Outremont and Côte-des-Neiges featuring synagogues, schools, and a rich cultural life.

In Hasidic culture, male attire typically includes: Kippah: A small cap worn to show reverence for God. Shtreimel or Spodik: Fur hats worn on special occasions by married men. Bekishe: A long, dark coat worn for Shabbat and holidays. Tzitzit: Fringes attached to garments, as commanded in the Torah. Peyot: Long side curls worn as a traditional expression of faith. Tallit Katan: A smaller prayer shawl worn under clothing. These garments symbolize adherence to tradition and faith. Thanks for enjoying my painting! Dee

Arts/Culture I just wanted to say thank you everyone for keeping this stuff alive. This city impresses me more every day!

I recently moved here from Germany and had no idea about the jewels you have here!

Here's a clip of a rehearsal from just this past Sunday with two local choirs and a full orchestra playing a pretty difficult piece by Dvorak: https://www.facebook.com/reel/729199649769309

(Concert is Saturday https://www.zeffy.com/fr-CA/ticketing/stabat-mater-de-dvorak)

Most cities in North America have _nothing_ like this—all of it died decades ago. But for some reason the amateur music tradition has carried on in Montreal with multiple choirs and orchestras - all with really good musicians of all ages filled with students, doctors, teachers, builders - everyone coming together just to play.

Just so happy about it!

Photo taken in San Francisco in May. For those who don't know, Vaillancourt's monumental fountain in San Francisco, informally named Québec libre!, is threatened with demolition. The city of San Francisco has been negligent in maintaining the fountain, and is now using its allegedly poor shape as justification for its destruction. Ironically, the chairman emeritus of the property management company seeking to redevelop the plaza Vaillancourt's fountain is located in - BXP (formerly Boston Properties) - is also a Montrealer. It is unclear whether Mortimer Zuckerman is aware that his company may be responsible for forcing the demolition of one of Vaillancourt's best known creations.
