Big ride around QLD

Just got back from a 5200 km ride around Queensland on my VFR1200f. Highly recommend!

That's amazing. I live in SEQ (Toowoomba) and am camping in NSW right now!

Can you share what the costs were like?

It wasn't too expensive at all. I mostly stayed at camping grounds..... anywhere from $30 to $70 a night depending on location (Cairns / Mission beach more expensive areas). I was refuelling / topping up a couple times a day, maybe $45 of fuel a day. Biggest cost would be food. As it was a charity ride, we often ate at brekafast at bakeries and dinner st pubs / RSL type places.. which while not totally expensive do add up over 2 weeks. Also water... even though its winter here atm most of the days were mid 30s near the top so youre drinking a lot

Thanx that gives me a feel for it. Like I'd manage, my wife wouldn't go... Meh.

$45 of fuel a day? So about how many km per day? 500?

Depends on the day... but anywhere from 300 to 600. The outback prices bump it up a tad also

Sure thing. I’m in Cairns and often thought about going west on the Savannah. What was it like when you got to the gulf section? Normally book it right at Isa back to the coast.

Edit: the CC highway from cairns to port D and then north thru Daintree is a blast! Recommended for next time

My favourite roads were from Cloncurry to Karumba, so cool. Definitely recommend taking the detour for something different!

Walkabout Creek!? As an 80s kid from the US I can’t help but get a little excited when I see that sign

Serious ride, mate. I've thought of riding to Townsville to see friends, but it's a hell of a way. Much respect.

Have done further.... from Brissy to Mt Isa, Alice springs, Adelaide, Broken Hill back to Brisbane. It is long... but awesome way to see the country!
