ITT people who really don't like QT.

Reddit hates successful and talented people they can't feel smug or superior to

I love every movie of his that I’ve seen. However I’ve found his opinions of late to be “old man yells at cloud” level stuff.
Edit: a word.

Yeah, I love many of his movies but that doesn’t mean I need to worship the guy. The idea that any director is flawless is ridiculous. There are a handful of films that approach perfection but absolutely zero filmographies have no duds.

u/mikegimik 10h ago
Yup, he was raised on revenge flix and blaxploitation movies and just wants to recreate that experience with every movie he makes, but his characters say bad words that he writes for them so he must be a bad person ¯_(ツ)_/¯

Hes not a bad person because he makes violent movies. He's a bad person for victim blaming the 13 year old girl Roman polasnki raped and saying on the howard stern show that 'she wanted it' and that he dosent believe in statutory rape.

u/_Vaudeville_ 6h ago
lol you really are being naive here. You know QT went on the Howard Stern show and called Roman Polanski’s rape victim a “party girl” who seduced Polanski and wanted what happened to her?
He was also best friends with notorious sexual predator Harvey Weinstein. And he casts himself in films to say the N word.

Ugh, why can't we just criticize someone? I like most of his movies, but if somebody don't they should be allowed to do so without people taking this stupid tone back.

Dang, imagine not liking Quentin Tarantino. What a weird existence that must be.

u/DavyJonesRocker 9h ago
The guy has made 9 movies. And even though I happen to like a handful of them, doesn’t mean he’s free from criticism or being disliked. Weirder existence to stan the guy

u/BigTomBombadil 8h ago
Being an active hater of someone/something will always be weirder to me than being an active fan.
You can always ignore elective things you don’t enjoy. (Obvious caveat is being a hater of people/orgs that have committed atrocities, but that’s not even the same discussion).

u/DavyJonesRocker 8h ago
I’m not a hater. I actually admire him as a filmmaker. All I said is that it’s okay to not be a fan and it’s weird to suggest otherwise.
That’s actually my least favorite thing about QT — his fans are insufferable.

r/movies is the only place where this comment gets downvoted. Quentin supports a state and lives in a state that was literally fighting for the right to rape. Also check the sexual assault statistic on thai female workers in Israeli farms.

Jackie Brown is the only one of his movies he didn't originate. It's an adaptation from that Justified dude.

A director whose movies I won’t miss but I actively avoid listening to him talk about them.
28
u/Boner666420sXe 11h ago
I actually really enjoy hearing him talk about his movies and movies in general. I think it’s interesting hearing anybody talk that passionately about something.
-20
u/Gilshem 11h ago
I find he comes off as an arrogant prick with the charisma of a shoe but he definitely knows a fuck ton about movies.
-13
u/dreinn 10h ago
Same here but apparently that is NOT a majority opinion, yikes

Someone likes something you don’t. Yikes!

In this interview he continues his “i know how black people talk because i grew up around a lot of black people” bullshit. The interviewer was pathetic, he lets that shit slip by so he could talk about himself, i think in the hopes thst Tarantino would ask more about him. He didnt care, at all.
47
u/SuperAleste 11h ago
What the problem? If you grew up around people who talk a certain way, you probably know how they talk.
-57
u/highdefjeff-reddit 11h ago edited 11h ago
I assume you didnt listen to the interview. If he was humble about it it wouldnt sound as condescending.
-EDIT- Also..i dont get his or your point. People who talk a certain way…what way is that?
37
u/holydiiver 11h ago
what way is that?
African American Vernacular English (AAVE) has been pretty thoroughly studied…
17
u/Allexandyr 11h ago
Their use of “certain way” is alluding to different regions of the world developing unique patterns of speech when compared to other geographic locations. For example, if one were to grow up in Los Angeles, they would be more likely to use vernacular local to Los Angeles, whereas someone who grows up in Paris likely would not. Hope this helps.

u/BigfootsBestBud 11h ago
Dude what are you trying to pull here by pretending that some black people dont speak in an identifiable way. Its the same way any other subsection of people have their own dialects or vernacular.
Tarantino was raised around certain people who spoke a certain way, and was exposed to films where they spoke that way - so its reflected in his writing.
Fair enough on him being a bit of a self-absorbed idiot about it, but its hilarious that you suggest it's racist in your edit.
-32
u/highdefjeff-reddit 10h ago
Not trying to pull anything. All of these replies and no one even knows the context of Tarantino’s statement because you havent listened to the interview.
27
u/BigfootsBestBud 10h ago
Because I'm not talking about what Tarantino said. I'm talking about what you said.
People who talk a certain way…what way is that?
You're feigning ignorance like the implication being made is that black people talk in a lesser way
-11
u/highdefjeff-reddit 10h ago
Thats an impressive attempt at spin. All im asking the guy who made that post is what he means by people who talk a certain way. What does that mean?
12
u/BigfootsBestBud 9h ago
Me asking why you're pretending not to know what hes referring to is a "Impressive attempt at a spin"
Followed by you once again asking what that means.
Okay buddy, keep playing dumb
-2
u/highdefjeff-reddit 9h ago
Why do you keep answering for someone you dont know? You didnt say it so why get involved?

It’s possible QT has a speech impediment that makes everything he says sound condescending. You can’t know for sure.
