How was the film “RELAY” not promoted enough? What a crime, because it’s a great film with the great Riz Ahmed (from the “Night of…”) kept me guessing the whole way. Terrific cast filled with familiar faces. Check out this video from this search, trailer for relay https://share.google/jj4E2HsEM9B4h2PeH

I saw it earlier today and really enjoyed it. A nice, old-fashoned kickass crime thriller!

Bleecker Street doesn't really have the muscle to promote more than one film at a time. Right now, their big bet is Spinal Tap II (??), so my guess is they're plowing promo money into that at the expense of everything else.

Shame. Picture's not for me, but it always sucks to see a good film get dumped.

Yeah they ran a long promo for Spinal Tap before showing the film

Well, there's the culprit. Again, sucks to see.

This is the answer.

Bleeker Street can't even market their Oscar bait competently, there's no way they gave this film anything close to a fighting chance.

I agree. I can tell why Americana and Eden got dumped. No idea why Relay got this treatment.

It wouldn’t be a big hit in this climate but it could have done something decent.

The problem i think is that the adult drama is probably the genre that is struggling the most. Studios don't want to develop movie stars because IP is the draw now.

Tastes have changed. 30 and 40 years old are still watching Marvel and Star Wars. I am not saying adults can't enjoy comic book movies, but a lot of adults refuse to watch anything else.

And these type of movies don't have the spectacle to draw in casual viewers.

Black Bag, The Order, Relay, Highest 2 Lowest, Rebel Ridge, These were movies that would cost $20-60m, you could cast Tom Hanks, Denzel, Harrison Ford, Julia Roberts and make a really good thriller that would triple it's budget. These are all dead in the water now. If they are lucky, they get a second life on streaming.

If movies like The Fugitive or Pelican Brief came out today they'd be dumped on streaming with very little marketing.

Your take from 2019 could probably use a refresh.

Right, that's why all the movies I listed from the last two years have done so well right? Or are you suggesting that original horror movies like Weapons and Sinners are now adult dramas?

Loved this movie. I’ll see anything Riz Ahmed is in. I agree, more people need to see it.

The way studios treat low budget indies these days, I think we’re lucky this even got a theatrical release at all. Glad it did because it would have been buried on streaming or digital.
