Housing Resources for homeless students

Does anyone have any resources for homeless students at MSU?

My partner is currently homeless and will be on the streets on Saturday. We don’t know what to do, none of the leasing offices will call him back with updates and he can’t afford the prices in the co-ops.

General Motorcycles in Moped Parking

Post image
12 Upvotes

Did you know that motorcycles (classified by the university as anything over 50cc) aren't allowed to park in moped parking spaces on campus? The university says that motorcycles are so much larger than mopeds and therefore do not fit in the spaces. Here is my motorcycle parked along side 2 mopeds and one other motorcycle. I call bullshit.

Scheduling/classes Thoughts on FOR 101?

I just dropped a class and decided to sign up for FOR 101 but I'm reading the info on D2L and its making me second guess enrolling in it. Has anyone taken this class that can give me advice on whether or not I should drop it before it gets too late? Like is the workload hard, I see that there's like a lot of tests/exams. I heard it was an easy online class, but looking at all the modules and stuff it might not be that easy. Any thoughts?

Freshman Questions Scholarship Need (Help/Advice)

Hey guys I’m a freshman in MSU, I was wondering what scholarships can I go for to lessen the cost, I didn’t get any scholarships from MSU or HS, I got offered about 9-10k a year off from CMU and I wouldn’t have to pay room and board there but I denied it so I was wondering what can I do to my lessen my cost here at MSU, I’m thinking about applying to be a RA or ICA to get room and board out of the way but yea right now it’s 30-35k a year roughly and my parents are paying for it but idk how long they can keep paying for it when they are paying for my brothers grad school too. I don’t think I’d get any need based scholarships since my parents on paper make a lot of money but it never gets to them (that’s why I didn’t fill out fasfa) I’m open to any ideas so please throw some at me, I am willing to work a bit if it’s good pay (I am thinking about becoming a forklift operator because it’s 19-20$ a hour).

(I don’t wanna attend community college my parents wouldn’t let me and I want to remove me as a major financial burden from their shoulders or at least lessen it (since my parents are paying for my college currently) + I’m hoping to stay at msu, I plan on getting a 4.0 or higher 3s like 3.8 so I’m hoping maybe merit based, I’m only taking 15 credits this semister and I transferred in with 15 credits as well.)

Thankyou, From a spartan questioning their future

General library hours cut?

does anyone know why some of the libraries have permanently cut hours?

the main library used to be open 24/7 on weekdays and now closes at 10, and the business library now closes at 5 every day instead of 12.

the only thing I can think of is budget cuts?

General Advice for Potential PhD student?

Currently applying for chemistry PhD programs and wanted some insight. 1. How is housing there? Any graduate specific on campus housing or insight on affordable apartments? 2. Does anyone know the current chemistry program stipend and benefits? 3. Are Dr. Chiu and Dr. Jackson good P.I.s? 4. How are the chemistry clubs on campus? Do they have any green chemistry interests?

Any and all information would be helpful. Thanks!

General Why do we burn the couches??

I just realized I’ve been here four, almost five years for grad school and have just accepted the couch burning as a thing that happens instead of questioning how absolutely insane it is. Does anyone know how this got started? I searched around the internet for a while and just get a lot of stories about how the authorities hate it.

Scheduling/classes STT 201 textbook

Hello, I was wondering if anyone has taken STT 201 with Prof Savvy Barnes, do you acctually need the Mind On Statistics textbook? The prof said we need to read it, but it seems to have no other use. I don't see how reading the textbook would help me when I only really learn from doing homework. All quizzes and exams are open book and note.

Picture’s from a visit I had about ten years ago. For the game I’m in I need the exact coordinates, but if you can tell me what building or lawn this is I can figure it out from there. Sorry in advance for the crappy old Instagram filter 😂

Scheduling/classes CSE 331+320+380+EC340 ~ lil worried about course load

Trying to get some opinions on the amount of suffering I might be brining upon myself with this schedule. Even though its only 12 credits I've heard from previous students 331 and 320 and even 380 are all challenging and time consuming courses.

I'm taking EC340 because I'm doing Econ as my cognate as this will be the last one I need to fulfill the requirements. I hear it's a homework/memorization heavy course which was expected and I do not have much options. I only have STT351 & MTH 314 or 400 level CSE courses to choose from and both STT and MTH have been filled since the end of last semester. I've caught an opening but it's a conflict with CSE320 which I need to take.

Definitely some stuff I should be talking to an advisor (i'm working on it later today) but would like to see what anyone has to say.

General How do alumni access IM buildings with membership?

I’m a recent grad and want to purchase the alumni IM membership. I know how to purchase, but can’t find information on how to actually access the buildings. Wondering if my student ID will still work or if I will need a new one. This page seems to be missing a link to that info. https://recsports.msu.edu/contact/facility-access
