Best American rock band of all time

This is obviously a subjective post. As post suggest “all time” so feel free to go back to to the 50’s and please consider that bands from this millennium may not hold up in a couple decades. Also genre blending bands welcome.

Aerosmith OR The Eagles OR The Beach Boys OR Journey. It’s tough to think of anyone else that’s had a bigger impact on rock and roll in the USA. Statistically this is the correct answer. It’s tough to pick just one.

Very few mentions for Aerosmith and they really have an argument for #1 overall. Longevity, tons of hits, cultural impact, membership stayed intact way better than most bands.

I also thought of Aerosmith and the Eagles. Super popular bands for many years.

Does it matter that half the band were not from America?

Define “not from America”? Eddie moved to America when he was seven years old, he was raised in the United States and formed the band in the United States.

The band was formed in the United States, they are an American rock band.

Actually YES, I forgot them! Even though I’d still probably put Aerosmith at 1.

I’ve seen Aerosmith at least a half a dozen times, probably more. They’re from Massachusetts and I’m in Providence, back in the day they used to come through here every year playing shows. Good times.

Serious question. What makes Journey different or superior to REO or Styx?

To me, those three bands are forever joined at the hip and fairly interchangeable.

REO was ehhh, STYX was great, but neither of them were nearly on the level as Journey was. As far as rock and roll go.

I’m not a fan of any of them, although I have seen 2 of them in concert, over the years they have kind of blended together for me. With the exception of Steve Perry’s vocals

All three were pretty lightweight bands. Not a lot of rock in them, maybe Styx a bit. They're AOR mainstream singles bands.
