Best American rock band of all time

This is obviously a subjective post. As post suggest “all time” so feel free to go back to to the 50’s and please consider that bands from this millennium may not hold up in a couple decades. Also genre blending bands welcome.

My answer too. I don't think there can be any doubt in terms of longevity, a string of fucking incredible albums, influence, artistic greatness, and integrity. Even though many slated them for signing with a major label, I think they're forgiven.

Absolutely! Hard rock/alt rock if you wanna sub genre them. They sure aren’t classical, jazz, country, swing, R&B or Folk (they’re not hip hop or rap, but I’m calling that a sub genre of rock also)
