Best American rock band of all time

This is obviously a subjective post. As post suggest “all time” so feel free to go back to to the 50’s and please consider that bands from this millennium may not hold up in a couple decades. Also genre blending bands welcome.

If you said greatest or most important guitar solo, I’d for sure have Maggot Brain/Eddie Hazel up there.

But Parliament and Funkadelic and P-Funk have more garbage than diamonds. They made some great songs but funk, by its nature, doesn’t lend to exploration of the music that some other artists have done.
