Best American rock band of all time

This is obviously a subjective post. As post suggest “all time” so feel free to go back to to the 50’s and please consider that bands from this millennium may not hold up in a couple decades. Also genre blending bands welcome.

I considered suggesting this, then recalled how their albums slowly went downhill after their powerhouse first effort.

Full disclosure. Saw them twice in concert. Not easy to do for a Texas boy

Yes unfortunately after the first two albums things nosedived but to be fair the first album is pretty much perfection and would be hard to improve upon.

I have to disagree. Once I finally got around to listening to their full albums, I was really impressed by their consistently good quality. I think the first five albums are fairly solid throughout, and then things drop off by the sixth album.

I'll bite. Why is it hard to see The Cars as a "Texas boy". I have no idea what that is supposed to mean.
