PICKnMIX stuck on black screne with popping sound

Hey, Recently picked up a 161 in 1 cart for my cabinet just so I don't have to swap carts as much (my kid wants to switch games every 15 minutes). I wanted to try the PICKnMIX because I do not really enjoy the original 161in1 menu.

When I boot up the system I hold the P1 start button and I release it when I see the unibios logo. Then I get a black screen and a popping sound from my speaker. Nothing else happens. I have tried waiting for 5 minutes but it stays on the black screen forever.

Anyone who can help me?

Which 161 n 1 cart did you get?

There are some (mostly older I think) that don't support pick n mix.

Hmmm. That looks like a newer model to me. I would expect it to work but I have no experience with it.

I believe there is information out there that says version 2 isn't compatible with pick n mix but the way these carts are labeled it's hard to tell what is really a version 2. How many different version 2's are out there? Idk. People were also mixing up series 2 and version 2. Again, labeling.

There is a chance the cart just doesn't support it.

I'm guessing you are on unibios 4.0, the version that supports pick n mix.

I don't think it will be this but make sure you're getting a solid 5v.

Might want to checkout the arcade-projects forum.

Posting a picture of the cart PCBs might be helpful.

I might need to upgrade to a v4 cart instead. I will check the 5v when I get home from work.

Afaik, PickNMix only works with either a v1 cart (clear or yellow) or a modified v3 that is converted to a Vortex cart.

PickNMix also works with an unmodified V3 cart.

Picknmix does not work with the vortex cart without a special hacked version of the bios. The bios must be hacked for the specific games list on your vortex cart.

The process to hack is not known or documented but there is source code available of a working hack for a specific games list.

I have an old banana cart and it works for me. I don’t know what revision it is.

You need to hold b after rebooting unibios on the vortex cart to get back to the main menu and you need the new hacked vortex unibios

This is true but not related to pick n mix.

There are 2 bios for vortex. One for pick n mix and the other for back to menu.

Pick n mix for vortex requires a very specific game list.
