I'm good friends with someone whose son is in prison for life for murder. She says very plainly that she will always love her son, but the person he killed had a mother who loved him too. And that her son has to pay the consequences for his actions. I'd be there for my kid, but you don't do them any favors by hiding them and trying to protect them because they killed someone.

Exactly this.

I will support my kid in this situation. Hire the best criminal defense lawyer I can afford.

But they would have to face justice like everyone else.

Oh yeah I'd mortgage my house, sell everything I own to get them a great attorney. But I'm not hiding them.

So you say. My only loyalty is to my children. My only drive is to protect them. No matter what

So you'd understand if the parents of the person your child killed decided to take justice into their own hands and murdered YOUR child?? Good to know. That's the type of parent that never lets their child feel consequences. And that's not going to end well. Sometimes it's the hardest thing in the world to watch your child suffer even when you know they've brought it on themselves. But you rob them of growth and a chance to learn if you're constantly clearing the path. You can love and support your child while still allowing them to learn through their mistakes. Taking another life is a huge mistake, and it's an even bigger one to shield them from that mistake.

Ridiculous. You only get one life. You make a horrible mistake and your life is over. If I can shield my child from the consequences of his or her life being over, I will do it every time. You think ima care about anyone in the world’s life instead of my child’s, that’s real crazy talk

I don't even have words.

What would you do if your kid was an addict? Supply the drugs? You would more than likely end up being locked away too. So now your other kid has one less sibling and one less parent to keep them safe. Murder doesn’t just ruin one life.

No, don’t be ridiculous. I’d prevent any catastrophe that I could, but once it happened, my only loyalty or concern is for my child

What if they raped a child? What if they SAd your other child? Who would have your “loyalty” then?

Wow. What a horrific situation to try and envision. Not really sure. Still not gonna do anything to put one of my children in jail for years.
