Because they harbored and aided a fugitive who murdered his girlfriend.

He wasn't a fugitive at the time though. It's complex. They are not innocent, if anything, it's obstruction. Maybe criminal negligence.

I had this discussion yesterday, and it is difficult to criminally charge them.

They could go back I guess and depending on if they can obtain details of the conversations, I guess harboring could be on the table. They need to know what was said in those calls though.
