I suspect there might be more going on too, like, they raised this guy, I bet they helped make him what he turned out to be.

I agree. In the doc, it was said that Mrs L was jealous and controlling. I think she taught B what love looked like. He didn't know how to love without being...you guessed it: jealous and controlling.
