Recommendation Need a thriller series to binge watch on Netflix
In desperate need of new series to watch, can't seem to stick to anything So need a series that is dark, mysterious and very thrilling to watch. A series I cam binge watch in a day or over a few weeks.

I felt like this series was awful, but in the best way. The main character truly makes the worst decision possible at every given opportunity lol

Did you watch Bloodline? It's not popular but I really liked it.
Edit: I guess more people like it than I thought lol

u/UnfunnyJosh 1d ago
Bloodlines first season was great, second was OK, third was a mess. If you want to see a masterpiece from the same creators, find Damages. It is brilliant, and way under watched.

I loved that show.
I tuned in because I loved Kyle Chandler on Friday Night Lights. If you know anything about that one, you can well imagine my surprise 😂
It was so good, though. May be time for a rewatch.

As someone who lives in leith where it’s supposed to be set I was frustrated that it hardly shows any of leith. I recall them filming a lot of stuff around my apartment but it’s all been cut. That aside, it’s a great show and had me off my feet yelling at the TV during the end game scenes which I’ve not experienced in a while.
For those who don’t know, it’s based off a danish book series which has been relocated to Edinburgh, Scotland for the show. It’s a really glossy and well shot series with some great performances. Akram being the standout. It’s an investigative crime thriller that has the season story arc run alongside the wider plot of the main character being involved in a police shooting. So as you can imagine, the season story arc is wrapped up and wider thread continues on which leaves it wide open for season 2. Hopefully that doesn’t give anything away. Apologies in advance for the hammed up Scottish accents, we really aren’t like that!! Enjoy!

I’m surprised no one mentioned Luther. Idris Elbis as a flawed Detective with really interesting killers. Plus, the theme song sounds like Morcheeba.

It's not on Netflix, though. I think it's on Hulu now.

There’s no manga source material anymore so I’m a bit skeptical it will be good but I’ll still watch of course given seasons 1 and 2 were awesome.

If you missed it, Orphan Black is coming to Netflix.
Hellbound and All of Us are Dead are horror shows.
Dept. Q was excellent.
The Residence is a great mystery, but has a lighter tone.
Currently, I'm watching The Lazarus Project and I've enjoyed it so far.

All of Us are Dead was SO good. Watched Parasyte: The Grey right after and wasn’t disappointed either. I thought the latter was such a good standalone show.

I LOVED All of Us Are Dead. one of the only shows in recent years that I would RACE HOME from work to binge watch until I couldn’t keep my eyes open anymore, I could not get enough. I was shocked at how much I loved it.

I am rewatching Mr. Robot at the moment and loving it. I watched it when it was originally on USA and had forgot a lot of the details so its fresh again. Plus you really have to watch it a few times to take in all of the story.

Adolescence
4 episodes - one day in and out
Each episode is shot in one continuous take.
Yes, you heard me. 40+ min all one take.
I have never felt the inability to catch my breath through an entire episode like I had in this show.

Night Always Comes just came out a week ago or so. Gritty thriller about a woman desperate to stave off eviction.
It was much better than expected. Jennifer Jason Leigh does a perfect job as the irresponsible mom. I give it 2 thumbs up

Living in Portland, it was fun to spot the areas where it was shot. Jennifer J Leigh did a great job at being a horrible mom.

Try taking a look at the Korean drama Vincenzo.
Vincenzo Cassano is a Korean who was adopted by a family in Italy as a child. He has become the consigliere of the Cassano Mafia family. Due to ... reasons ... he has to return to Korea. There he finds himself pulled into fighting a corrupt conglomerate. It's a mix of thriller, comedy, legal drama, action. It is extremely well written. There are huge plot twists that will keep you surprised, great action, and a dark turn that more than balances out the comic moments. The soundtrack is great mixing classical and rock. The cast has fantastic chemistry. I've recommended this to people who aren't into Kdramas looking for what you describe and they tend to love it.
It has one of the best English dubs I've seen in a Kdrama, if you are really opposed to subtitles. We've watched it both ways. However, I would suggest watching in the original Korean. The languages do switch between Korean to Italian and even English at points. If you're watching the English dub, it losses a bit of the impact.
The start is just a bit slower, but the series never stops accelerating. It's 20 episodes long, with episodes typically between 1:20 to 1:30.
Very much worth the watch.

Burning Body, it’s based on a real case in Spain. You’ll have to use subtitles if you don’t know Spanish (I use them either way) but definitely binge worthy.

Dept Q is good, I’m on the last episode.
If you like anything super natural the original Penny Dreadful is always my go to.
Evil is also really good imo. Some people don’t because a lot of things don’t get answered but I actually like that for this one.
Early seasons of American horror story are also really great, like 1-5 or even 6.

I loved 'Sneaky Pete'. Lots of twists and turns, and best cast ever! I don't understand how it slipped under the radar, especially considering Bryan Cranston is one of the producers and is in the first season.
