Best steak in the toon? (or surrounding area?)

It's my 50th coming up, and I'm going out to dinner with my Mah and sister. Where does the best steak?

It's a bit of a treat for me so it's important it's a belta. I don't need to eat huge amounts but it's really important that's it's nice but I don't eat stuff like steak very often and you're only 50 once.

Edit: I can't thank you all. So thank you again to those I have and thank you to everyone else in advance

New poster Venues for hire that allow BYOB

Upvotes

Are there any venues or rooms that are available for hire in/near city centre that has capacity for 40/50 people and allows BYOB and food? Ideally with a speaker system to get our own DJ too! A bar would be nice but not a necessity. Just need a nice enough place that allows people to chat, socialise and dance!

Student House Bills Query

I have signed up for a bills package which has quoted us £85 each per month for water, gas, electricity, wifi. There are 5 of us in this student house. I was wondering if this was a decent deal or a rip off? We are in Newcastle. Thank you.

Ryanair cabin bag sizer before security?

No bag is the size it says it is on the label. I think mine fits. I’ve measured it. But I also know that in the Michael O’Leary universe a centimetre is whatever the hell size he decides it is.

Minded to get the metro up to the airport to check mine before I pack, if it’s a day I’ll already hit the zone C limit.

Can I? Yes, this is mad, but I hate gate charges and have too much spare time first thing in the morning.

New poster Does anyone know who this artist is?

Obviously not looking for a name, just curious about whether they’re a well known graffiti artist. They decided to spraypaint their tag over the top of an art installation outside the NewBridge Project which is pretty pathetic and has enraged me.

Hey All!

Looking to sort my fitness out and fancy giving some form of sport a try.

Anyone got any suggestions?

Not into football or rugby and wouldn’t mind trying something different.

Looking around the Blaydon area but can travel for something that can get me off the couch.

Area info Great North Run Parking

Hi all, Looking for some local advice about parking for the Great North Run weekend.

We’re staying the night before the race at the Premier Inn Newcastle City Centre (The Gate, Newgate Street). The plan is:

Saturday: I’ll drop the family at the hotel, then go park the car somewhere safe/secure for 24 hrs. I’ll then walk/Metro back to the hotel.

Sunday (Race Day): My wife and kids will head to the finish line area. After I finish, we’ll meet up and go straight to the car to head back south.

What I’m hoping for is a car park that’s either within ~30 minutes on the Metro to South Shields finish line or within 20 minutes’ walk. I was thinking somewhere around Gateshead might be a good compromise, but open to suggestions.

Main things I’m after:

Safe/secure for 24 hrs (Sat–Sun)

Not stuck in heavy race-day traffic near the seafront

Convenient Metro/walking distance to the finish so we can get away quickly after the run

Would really appreciate any tips from locals or regular GNR runners — where would you recommend parking?

Thanks in advance!

Airport to City

Hi all, next week (weekday) I have an inbound flight arriving in NCL just before midnight (I will only have a personal item in terms of luggage). When booking I assumed that the metro would be running at this hour but it isn’t, oops. What would be the best way to get to the city centre, near Central? Are there any buses? Or would and Uber/taxi be available at that time.

Looking for a specific photographer - help!

Hoping someone can help me with very little information to go on!

I visited Ouseburn market a couple of times over the summer and there was a man selling his photography, who had loads of photos of graffiti & street art from around Newcastle. I stupidly didn't get any details about who he is or where to buy other than at the market.

Does he sound familiar to anyone and if so where can I buy one of his photographs? (my son really liked one of them so wanting to get it for his birthday)

Edit: I have googled and searched on etsy but had no luck as my search criteria is very vague

New poster Moved to Cowgate

My girlfriend is from Cowgate and I moved up here last month from the West Country. Saw a lot of bad stuff about it online, but I've found it quite a friendly place in the day and pretty quiet at night. Is this really one of the worst areas of the city? The council estates back home are a lot worse...

It's been a month or probably even more of cameras filming these blue vested community patrolling officers. Why?? Is it like a skit or something because I swear they're filming fake scenarios.

New poster Craft hobbies groups

Hi everyone,

I(M 26) am an immigrant living in Newcastle, I have my fair share of MeetUp events, like language exchanges and book clubs. I am looking now for any places where you can build, fix stuff and learn how to do it, I observed that it helps me way more to regulate myself more if I have something to do with my hands instead of endlessly talking. It could also be an avenue for me to meet similar people like me. Do you have any recommendations? I live near Chillingham Road. Also it would be ideal if any of the groups you recommend are budget friendly.

My partners dad is originally from Newcastle so he’s got some sentimental ties and he wanted to go for his birthday this weekend. We ended the weekend discussing moving up for a year. I LOVE your city!
