News for me that he was on the Eagles

He didn’t even play in the last preseason game. I kept expecting him to come in for McCord, especially since McCord wasn’t playing great and it just kept not happening

This guy might actually be the worst NFL QB I’ve ever seen. At least Peterman has an okay NFL arm. This guy is legitimately not good at anything. Even Tim Boyle has 5x as many Touchdowns.

u/Davy257 Rams 2d ago
Tim Boyle is a backup QB cockroach, I’ve never seen someone like him get so many opportunities

u/WagonWheel22 Packers 2d ago
He’s basically a QB Coach that can play QB in a SHTF situation.

u/TyButler2020 Steelers 2d ago
Was gonna say Boyle gets very high praise for his film work and helping the starting qb leading into the week
Rodgers demanded the packers kept him around because of that when he was there

Boyle is 6’5” 240lbs. Everyone wants a body like that in the QB room, even with zero expectations.

I've seen many Browns QBs. DTR is legit the worst QB I've seen throw a football.

u/Cupcake_and_Candybar Browns 2d ago
I still think Kizer was worst QB I’ve seen.
2
u/JimmytheGent2020 Bears 1d ago
Kizer was at least able to move the ball down the field. He just threw back breaking picks in the red zone. DTR legit doesn't do anything good.

Losing to a completely inept DTR led offense that barely squeaked out 13 points was what got Matt Canada fired

I’m usually an optimist, but literally every single decision he made was wrong.

u/Bruinrogue 2d ago
He was maddening to watch at UCLA and honestly surprised he managed to stay in the league all this time.
15
u/Archelon225 Rams 2d ago
For me it was always fun to watch DTR hit the legs and hurdle defenders in the Rose Bowl, but I was worried that his fundamentals on reading a defense and making accurate throws were shaky for league standards. Also he's fragile and afraid to run against NFL linebackers, so combine that with a lack of development and loss of confidence, and he doesn't seem to have any upside nowadays to offset his big flaws.
I thought he was pretty good for the Bruins in his last two years, that said we had a supporting cast of NFL skill players at the time and a Chip Kelly offense that didn't ask for heroics from the QB. I remember reading that he didn't even expect to be drafted, so he's probably been about as surprised as you that he stayed in the league for two years. Probably a good time for him to hang up the cleats, but if he wants a last chance maybe he can go knock on Chip's door at the Raiders.

Yes I know, considering I'm replying to a post that says so. My point is which one would you actually want? As a Vikings fan even KOC couldn't recover Howell.
29
u/shit_eating_fan Eagles 2d ago
Howell has actually won NFL games before and he actually played well vs. us when he was in Washington. He can at least sling it and maybe chuck coin flip balls to AJ or something like that
DTR is irredeemably ass.
Either way he's gonna be QB3 so it's only in disaster situations where he'd be playing. McKee is an amazing backup and if both QB's fall it's cooked anyway so it's whatever
11
u/Sechzehn6861 Eagles 2d ago
Howell cut us up a few times. Sirianni thinks there's something there, seemingly. And he couldn't be much worse than DTR looked, really. In an ideal world it'll be academic and he won't see the field.
5
u/Insectshelf3 Eagles 2d ago
howell looked like a god against us, so yeah there’s something there. we’re fucked if howell/DTS see the field anyways so you might as well roll with the guy you know can sling it.

u/Sechzehn6861 Eagles 2d ago
Our season will be truly fucked and the sky will be falling if Howell or whoever QB3 is starts a game that we need to win 😂

u/athrowawayiguesslol Eagles Eagles 2d ago
Sam Howell has way more upside lol, I get you’re down on him but he’s been serviceable in the past. DTR has done nothing

u/Floober440 Browns 2d ago
He's a nice dude but yeah, Howell is like a fucking Pro Bowler compared to DTR.

u/ImagineIfBaconDied Vikings 1d ago
I don’t think you understand how bad DTR is
Sam Howell is bad, don’t get me wrong. He was awful in training camp and in the preseason. I am just as glad as you are that we traded him away
but Sam Howell looks like Tom Brady compared to DTR. DTR has thrown one touchdown and 10 INTs his NFL career and that’s just scratching the surface how bad he is

We were getting trade offers for him after his first pre season, where he had a strong showing.
He was fast, had a zippy kind of arm. He beat out the Pastronaught for a roster spot.
Then when NFL came to real NFL games he was horrid, he did not throw a single layered throw, everything was a bullet pass and his accuracy was spotty.
He did have a win vs the steelers in a defensive battle and he had to show up with a couple of good throws.
But he really did collapse and regress as a passer even looking awful in this past pre season. From all accounts he is a student of the game, a good worker and in shape, but it seems liek a case of quick sand where, even his hard work leads to sinking.
I think a little of it is the curse of being a decent athlete, where he has not developed completely as a passer, hitting the 2nd level throw. As a passer he reminds me a little of Brandon Weeden, Weeden could not layer a throw to save his life, he had a great bullet pass, or that kind of baseball throw on a line pass, but getting it over a guy no chance.
As a QB you cannot just get better at your strengths, you have to have a variety of excellent tools. When Lamar Jackson came into the league, he was limited as a passer, but his athletic traits where so high he could get a way with it, and to his credit, he has developed into a heck of passer, the same with Josh Allen.
5
u/RenaissanceHumanist Bears 2d ago
He seemed to have great upside coming into the league for someone in his draft position, but he never developed and looked atrocious when given opportunity.
I hope he can find a good coach to unlock the potential some of us saw in him

3
u/Dense_Young3797 Raiders 2d ago
I don't think so. DTR has played a lot in that system, Is known perfectly by Chip Kelly and is from Las Vegas. That said, Huntley is better QB, of course

u/TwoLegitShiznit Vikings 2d ago
Now I got to see this guy's film. They watched Sam Howell this preseason and deduced that he's a clear upgrade. Was DTR taking the hike and immediately punting the ball into the stands? I'm so curious.
35
u/Raider_r Lions 2d ago
Sam Howell has a 22:23 TD-INT ratio, while DTR's is 1:10. Howell is ass but DTR is solidly worse somehow
18
u/Sechzehn6861 Eagles 2d ago
DTR actively made our 2's and 3's worse in the game against the Browns. He was truly dreadful.
15
u/mogwai316 Eagles 2d ago
He did stuff like this in the preseason games he played in: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qn1cIIkCzac
He was so bad that it was making it impossible to even evaluate our receivers, so they sat him for the 3rd game and let McCord play the entire game. DTR was clearly getting cut after that. The only I guess surprise is that McCord was unimpressive enough that they decided to get Howell.

He played most of the Browns game and he was so bad I don’t know how the coaching staff could evaluate anyone else on offense.

Howell isn't even on the same plane of existence as DTR. Sam Howell looked like he was just an untalented NFL QB. DTR looks like a scared puppy that got put in football pads on accident.

DTR is the reason I will never trust preseason QB play again. He looked fantastic in his first preseason with us and then delivered some of the worst regular season play I’ve ever seen (and that’s saying a lot as a Browns fan)
