Maximizing corporate social responsibility impact: Why Marpu Foundation is the ideal partner for Sustainable Development goals through CSR, Employee Volunteering, Corporate Volunteering, and Employee Engagemen

The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), adopted by the United Nations in 2015, aim to end poverty, protect the planet, and ensure prosperity for all. These goals cover a wide range of interconnected issues, from economic growth and education to climate action and gender equality, ensuring development is sustainable across social, environmental, and economic dimensions. For businesses, aligning strategies with the SDGs not only drives innovation and growth but also enhances their reputation and long-term sustainability.

Marpu Foundation, established by National Youth Awardee Mr. Kadiri Raghu Vamsi, exemplifies the power of integrating the SDGs into corporate strategies. The foundation focuses on promoting volunteerism, ecological mindfulness, and sustainable development, making it a perfect partner for advancing the SDGs. Through its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives, Marpu Foundation encourages employee engagement in meaningful ways, fostering a culture of social responsibility.

Employee volunteering programs allow staff to contribute time and skills to causes aligned with the SDGs. This boosts community impact while also enhancing employee morale and deepening their connection to the company’s sustainability efforts. Whether it’s engaging in environmental initiatives like tree planting or wildlife conservation (SDG 13: Climate Action and SDG 15: Life on Land), employees become more invested in making a difference.

Aligning employee engagement with the SDGs not only empowers individuals but also strengthens corporate culture. By encouraging employees to create their own social impact initiatives, Marpu Foundation nurtures a sense of ownership and commitment to sustainability. This integration of SDGs into CSR not only contributes to global change but also improves Marpu Foundation’s reputation, cultivates employee loyalty, and ensures the company’s efforts resonate both within and beyond the organisation.

To conclude, Incorporating the SDGs into business strategies allows Marpu Foundation to make a lasting impact while fostering a culture of responsibility and innovation.

Educating Hearts and Minds: The Holistic Approach of Pehchaan The Street School

Ensuring access to quality education remains a major challenge in many parts of the world, especially for underprivileged and marginalized communities. Children from low-income families, those living in remote areas, or facing other socio-economic barriers often struggle to receive consistent schooling through traditional means. This education gap perpetuates cycles of poverty, inequality, and lack of opportunity.

To tackle this issue, non-profit organizations, social entrepreneurs, and education advocates have pioneered alternative approaches to make learning more accessible. "Street schools" or pavement/roadside schools are one such model that has gained traction. The core concept involves providing free basic education to children in their own neighborhoods or areas they spend time, without requiring them to travel to a dedicated school building.

Pehchaan The Street School, based in India, is one prominent example working to bring education to underprivileged children through this approach. Volunteer teachers set up temporary classrooms at roadside locations or urban slums and provide lessons in reading, writing, math and other subjects on a regular basis. The flexibility of this model allows children who may need to work odd jobs or have inconsistent schedules to still access education.

Beyond just academics, such initiatives often incorporate life skills, mentorship, and resources to empower students to break out of multi-generational poverty cycles. Understanding the complex circumstances these children face, street schools aim to instill self-confidence, ambition and a sense of dignity alongside literacy and numeracy.

While challenges like securing funding, volunteer retention, and coordinating safe public spaces remain, the street school approach has shown promise in bridging the education gap innovatively. By bringing learning opportunities directly to underserved communities, it demonstrates how tailored grassroots-level solutions can complement and fill gaps in government efforts towards universal education.

Overcoming barriers in the education space requires a combination of systemic reforms, resource allocation, community engagement and creative thinking. Alternative models like street schools are an important part of the solution mix to ensure no child gets left behind from their fundamental right to quality learning.

Education is often heralded as the great equalizer, but for many children around the world, access to quality education remains a distant dream. Numerous barriers, ranging from economic hardship to social stigmas, impede their path to learning. However, initiatives like Pehchaan The Street School are working tirelessly to break these barriers and provide hope through education.

The Genesis of Pehchaan The Street School

Founded with a mission to educate underprivileged children, Pehchaan The Street School operates on a simple yet powerful premise: every child deserves the right to learn. Originating in the bustling streets of major Indian cities, Pehchaan The Street School initially served as a small-scale project to offer basic education to unprivileged children. Over time, it has grown into a beacon of hope, transforming the lives of countless children who otherwise would have no access to schooling.

Pehchaan The Street School, a non-profit organization based in Delhi NCR, has been working tirelessly for over 9 years to provide free education to underprivileged children. The institutionalization and commodification of education in India have severely restricted the ability of the underprivileged to access means of vocational and academic studies. Pehchaan The Street School aims to break this barrier by providing education to children who cannot attend school due to financial constraints or other social barriers.

Pehchaan The Street School's primary objective is to create a society where education is available to all, irrespective of class or economic strata. Pehchaan The Street School's vision is to make each child capable of being self-sufficient and teach them how to create a life on their own terms. The organization's mission includes providing free education, aids for higher education, skill enhancement courses for women, healthcare facilities, legal aid, and financial support to the underprivileged section of society.

Pehchaan The Street School's unique approach to education combines storytelling, games, and other interactive methods to make learning fun and engaging for children. The organization runs street schools in different parts of Delhi NCR, where volunteers teach children basic literacy, numeracy, and life skills. They also provide health and hygiene education and regular health check-ups to ensure the children's overall well-being.

In 2023, Pehchaan The Street School experienced monumental growth, with over 1000 children under its aegis and more than 500 active volunteers across 7 centers. The organization opened new centers in Indraprastha metro station, GTB Nagar, Mukherjee Nagar, Noida Sector 35, IIT Metro Station, and Gol Gumbad. Pehchaan also launched its first vocational center in Noida, where they teach computer courses at low prices for the underprivileged.

The organization relies on donations and grants to fund its operations and regularly shares updates and reports on its website to maintain transparency and accountability.

By partnering with Pehchaan The Street School, companies can support the organization's mission while fulfilling their Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) objectives. Pehchaan The Street School's innovative approach to education is helping underprivileged children break free from poverty and achieve their full potential.

Founding Vision and Mission

Pehchaan The Street School was founded in 2015 by Akash Tandon and Kanika Narula. Their vision was simple yet powerful: to provide quality education to children who face barriers due to poverty, lack of resources, and social inequalities. Pehchaan The Street School believes that education is not just about acquiring knowledge; it’s about transforming lives.

In a world where education is often seen as a privilege, Pehchaan The Street School is shattering the status quo. This innovative organization, named after the Hindi word for "identity," is breaking down barriers and making education accessible to underprivileged children in India.

Many children, particularly those from marginalized communities, face a multitude of obstacles when it comes to education. Financial constraints, social pressures, and the lack of traditional classrooms can all hinder a child's right to learn. Pehchaan The Street School recognizes these challenges and works to dismantle them.

Breaking the Mold: Education Beyond the Walls

Pehchaan The Street School's approach to education is far from conventional. Instead of relying on fixed classrooms, they bring education directly to the streets. This innovative approach eliminates the burden of costly transportation and makes learning accessible right where children live.

But Pehchaan The Street School's impact goes beyond physical location. They understand that rote memorization isn't the key to igniting a passion for learning. Their curriculum emphasizes engaging activities and fosters a love for knowledge. This makes education fun and empowers students to take charge of their learning journey.

Addressing Economic Barriers

Economic hardship is one of the most significant barriers to education. Many children from impoverished backgrounds are forced to work to support their families, leaving no time or resources for schooling. Pehchaan The Street School tackles this issue head-on by providing free education and learning materials, ensuring that financial constraints do not hinder a child's right to learn. Furthermore, the school often operates in flexible time slots, allowing working children to attend classes without sacrificing their responsibilities at home.

Combating Social Stigma

In many communities, social stigmas and cultural biases prevent children, especially girls, from receiving an education. Pehchaan The Street School actively works to change these mindsets by engaging with parents and community leaders, emphasizing the long-term benefits of education for both boys and girls. By fostering a supportive community environment, the school helps to dismantle the prejudices that keep children out of the classroom.

Holistic Approach to Education

Pehchaan The Street School takes a holistic approach to education. Beyond basic literacy and numeracy, they recognize the importance of nurturing creativity, critical thinking, and self-confidence. Here’s how they achieve this:

Formal Education: Pehchaan The Street School offers structured classes covering core subjects like mathematics, language, science, and social studies. These classes follow a curriculum tailored to the needs of unprivileged children.

Vocational Training: Recognizing that practical skills are essential for employability, Pehchaan The Street School conducts vocational workshops. Children learn skills like carpentry, tailoring, and computer basics.

Health and Hygiene Education: Pehchaan The Street School emphasizes health awareness, hygiene practices, and nutrition. They believe that healthy children are better learners.

Extracurricular Activities: Sports, arts, and cultural activities are integral to Pehchaan The Street School’s approach. These activities foster creativity, teamwork, and self-expression.

Innovative Teaching Methods

Traditional teaching methods often fall short when applied to children who have never been part of a formal educational system. Pehchaan The Street School employs innovative and engaging teaching techniques tailored to the needs of unprivileged children. Using a blend of visual aids, interactive sessions, and hands-on activities, teachers at Pehchaan The Street School ensure that learning is both effective and enjoyable. This approach not only helps children grasp basic concepts quickly but also ignites a passion for learning that can last a lifetime.

Technology: A Bridge to Wider Horizons

Pehchaan The Street School leverages technology to further expand the horizons of education. By incorporating digital platforms and remote learning, they ensure that children have access to a wider range of educational resources than ever before. This empowers them to explore subjects beyond the limitations of their immediate surroundings.

Building a Supportive Environment

The emotional and psychological well-being of students is a top priority at Pehchaan The Street School. Many of the children come from traumatic backgrounds and require a safe and nurturing environment to thrive. The school provides counseling services and creates a supportive atmosphere where children feel valued and understood. This holistic approach helps students build confidence and develop a positive outlook towards education and life.

Overcoming Challenges

Pehchaan The Street School faces several challenges in its mission:

Financial Constraints: Operating a school without government funding or corporate sponsorships is tough. Pehchaan The Street School relies on donations, grants, and community support.

Logistical Hurdles: Finding suitable locations for classes, ensuring safety, and managing resources in crowded urban areas are ongoing challenges.

Parental Resistance: Some parents prioritize immediate income over education. Pehchaan The Street School works tirelessly to convince families of the long-term benefits of education.

Impact and Success Stories

Despite these challenges, Pehchaan The Street School’s impact is evident:

Graduates: Many Pehchaan The Street School graduates have gone on to pursue higher education. Some have secured jobs, breaking the cycle of poverty.

Community Engagement: Pehchaan The Street School actively involves parents, local leaders, and volunteers. They create a sense of ownership within the community.

Advocacy: Pehchaan The Street School advocates for policy changes to improve access to education for unprivileged children.

The impact of Pehchaan The Street School is best illustrated through its success stories. Take the example of Rani, a young girl who once scavenged through garbage to help her family survive. Today, thanks to the education she received at Pehchaan The Street School, Rani is a top-performing student with aspirations to become a teacher. Stories like Rani's are a testament to the transformative power of education and the vital role played by initiatives like Pehchaan The Street School.

In May 2024, the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) made a big announcement about the grade 12th result. When lakhs of students appeared, one Pehchaan The Street School child, Deepak, also took the exam and scored 83% in his 12th-grade exams. Pehchaan The Street School, celebrated Deepak’s happiness with zeal.

Deepak, who belongs to a family where no importance is given to education and even nobody cares if somebody is focusing on studies for their better tomorrow. No one from the family studied after ninth standard. But Deepak not even studied beyond that but topped in his 12th boards. It was a very proud moment for Deepak, his family as well as for Pehchaan The Street School but when he tells his family about his marks nobody even pays attention and nobody has interest that how is he doing. This is unawareness and lack of knowledge of the importance of education which Pehchaan The Street School is trying to cover up and one day we will succeed and all our Indians will be able to read and write at least and know the basic math so that no one can cheat them. Education is the sole solution to poverty, economic backwardness of our country. Let us come together to contribute to this cause and enlighten every house with light of education.

One notable success story is that of Raju, a 10-year-old boy who worked as a ragpicker. Through Pehchaan The Street School, Raju not only learned to read and write but also developed a passion for drawing. Today, he dreams of becoming an artist and is working towards that goal with the support of his teachers and peers.

The Path to a Brighter Future

Pehchaan The Street School’s journey is a testament to resilience, compassion, and the transformative power of education. By breaking down barriers, they empower children to dream beyond their circumstances. As we celebrate their achievements, let’s remember that education is not a privilege—it’s a right for every child, regardless of their background.

While Pehchaan The Street School has made significant strides in breaking educational barriers, there is still much work to be done. Pehchaan The Street school aims to expand its reach, bringing education to even more underprivileged children across different regions. By continuing to innovate and adapt to the needs of the communities they serve, Pehchaan The Street School is paving the way for a brighter, more equitable future.

Pehchaan The Street School's mission goes beyond academics. They understand that education is a tool for empowerment. Their goal is to equip children with the knowledge and skills they need to not only succeed in school but also to build a brighter future for themselves and their communities.

Pehchaan The Street School is a beacon of hope, proving that education can truly be for all. By breaking down barriers and creating a nurturing learning environment, they are helping children discover their identities and pave the way for a more equitable society.

Conclusion

In a world where millions of children are deprived of their right to education, Pehchaan The Street School stands as a beacon of hope and a model for how grassroots initiatives can drive meaningful change. By addressing economic barriers, combating social stigmas, employing innovative teaching methods, and creating a supportive learning environment, Pehchaan The Street School is not just providing education; it is empowering children to break free from the cycle of poverty and achieve their dreams.
