Is it hard to get accepted in UiS for engineering ?
I really want to be accepted there after taking NORINT next year since it's the closest and best near my family house

Hello, I've just taken over as mod, as the previous one didn't seem very active.
I hope to turn this subreddit into something more interesting than "r/norsk with 1/10th of the members". So if you have a suggestion as to how this sub should be used, please comment here.
Automoderator has been set up (by me, so probably not very well), so please show some leniency if your post is removed, and don't be afraid to reach out.
Thanks
mr_greenmash

This subreddit has existed in parallel to r/norsk for quite a while. It has in the past few years been used by both spammers, stock market people's discussions about Norwegian Air Shuttle [NAS], and lately (the past 12-18 months) had increased/renewed interest from language learners.
For language learning, r/norsk is more active, and will likely be a more helpful choice. As for what this sub will be used for, please leave a suggestion below. If you'd like to keep this as a secondary sub for learning the language, that's an completely acceptable proposition, so leave it in the comments.
All the best

I built an app (Chickytutor.com) where you can practice speaking with an AI tutor.
The method is simple. It asks you to translate english sentences into Norwegian and then offers feedback on what you did right and wrong.
Question: Would you rather learn Norwegian from another language? (your native language for example?)

Hello all...I am doing some research, and on the baptismal record of my great grandfather from 1875, it lists his mother's name and then the phrase "Gulli Ødig" immediately after her name. Gold Empty? Does this relate to a fee paid at the baptism, does it relate to her poverty status, or....what? Thanks for any help!

Hello all,
I built a small website for learning languages including Norwegian. Interested whether people find this useful!

Hi, i'm Samir but friends call me Mike. I'm from Azerbaijan but my aunt lives in Norway, Oslo. I just graduated and now entered the bachelor's degree. I really love Norwegian history and culture and now learning the language. Hope someday after graduation i'll live and work in Norway. I hope i'll find a Norwegian penpal who is interested in companionship with me. Btw i'm christian. I'm a little shy because this is the first time I'm taking steps to seek communication with Norwegians. Maybe i'll improve my norwegian with native speaker. Thank you all♡ P.s. sorry if there is mistakes in grammar ;)

Alright! So I recorded an audio file for an online friend that I'm teaching Norwegian to, and thought I'd post it here in case anyone wants some examples of more casual nor conversations that aren't only "Vennen min liker katten. Katten går med en hatt." ("My friend likes the cat. The cat is wearing a hat") x.x
Keep in mind that we're not professionals, and also not good at having normal conversations :D
Oki! Here's the sound file (that I had to turn into a video, because reddit doesn't allow for sound files for some reason x.x) and the transcript. Keep in mind that we're southern, so we sound southern lol. Okai that's all. byebye.

Hello Norwegian, make sure you don’t get baffled next time you see a known word in an unknown context.

Hi ! I'm sorry if this isn't the right sub for that, I'm new here.
I was wondering if anyone on here could translate something for me from french to norwegian. I can pay obviously though I have no idea what kind of amount we would be talking about.
If you have other ideas on where to find a translator I'm interested as well.
Thank you so much :)

Sorry because I know y’all hate when us North Americans attach ourselves to European culture.
My grandmother was born and raised in Norway but spent a good portion of her life here in Canada. She recently passed. I recently got a red eyed tree frog and would like to give him a Norwegian or Norse name in her memory.
Any suggestions are super welcome!!

Hi! My brother and I created a language-learning app that includes Norwegian. It’s for anyone who wants to learn Norwegian, or for Norwegian speakers who want to learn one of our other supported languages. If you want us to build you a feature just let me or my brother know we keep track and the more people ask for something the quicker we will build it.
We’re adding more lessons, games, and features.
Find us on r/polychat or the App Store.

Hei!

Hello everybody. I realized that I struggle to learn Norwegian for a lack of media to consume in this language. So here the question, or more like a request Can you recommend some Norwegian utube channels? Not educational, something to watch in your free time. Maybe you know some sites to watch movies\series in Norwegian? Or bands\artists to listen to? Thank you all in advance!

I recently was introduced to the beautiful anti-war poem "Til Ungdommen" by Nordahl Grieg, and am hoping to print a translation as a gift for someone who I know would be moved by it. I've been unable to find a single translation that feels really fully reliable and still beautiful, so have been combining lines from various translations myself (aided here and there by Google Translate).
The one line I am having trouble with is the following:
"Stilt går granatenes glidende bånd."
This has been translated in several ways:
Clearly there is some major variance here, and I want to make sure I am staying true to the message of the poem. What is the essence of this line? Are grenades sliding along in an ominous way (i.e. towards killing) or sliding off somebody's body? Or something else? I'm very open to however folks might translate and interpret this!
Thank you in advance for any advice!
---
For context: here is the entire stanza this line is from:
Stilt går granatenes
glidende bånd.
Stans deres drift mot død,
stans dem med ånd!
And here is a link to the entire poem on Wikipedia - it's truly beautiful!

Hi everyone! My great (maybe great great) grandmother moved to the states when she was a young adult. She came to the United States with only this wooden trunk. Her first name was Maren, but I’m having trouble finding her last name. If anyone knows what this reads, let me know :)

Hei!
