That looks like an oil industry view of the issues involved.
The UK has been working on plans for a Geological Disposal Facility (GDF) for decades. Work is being conducted using a similar approach to other European countries, including Sweden, Finland, France, Germany and Belgium.
UK site selection now requires the popular international concept of "volunteering" under which local communities cannot have the locations of GDFs imposed on them by Governments.
But that aside, as something like 80% of the UK waste inventory is already at Sellafield, a location there or nearby would eliminate or reduce the work needed to move the waste anywhere else.
