Nursing Hacks Home Health RN pay

Post image

I’ve been a nurse for 8 years and have always worked in the hospital setting (travel nursing for the last 4 years).

Looking to transition to a nursing job outside the hospital and have been looking a lot into home health, clinic jobs, etc.

I got a job offer with a home health company and I’m wondering how these pay-rates (pay per visit) compare to others in the same area (Orange County, California)?

I wish someone had told me what a con being salary in home health is. I used to do per diem…idk why I didn’t stick with that. 😂

I literally feel like I have no life and am working 24/7. I don’t think I have gone to bed before 2 am a single night the past week and a half between getting home late because I was stuck in traffic for an hour + , trying to call everyone for the next day, and finishing my charting there is no room for anything else. I don’t think I’d care as much if my pay reflected all of the work I am doing, but unfortunately, it does not. I get paid the same whether I am able to complete everything in four hours or if it takes me all night. 😭

Sis, it’s time to get another job. As bad as inpatient bedside is… I’d rather deal with 3 12s of absolute mayhem. Cuz when u clock out you’re done! Docs are there, u have support staff. Even the worst day bedside at a level 1 trauma center trumps the never ending overload that is Home Health (Visiting Nursing). Oasis and the charting and how incredibly uneducated people are about their health has killed the field.

Oh believe me, I am looking! 😂

Just worked an entire week in a row with no breaks and I am ready to tap out. It’s ridiculous.

If you can afford to quit I’d say do so, take a couple weeks and apply for something else and take a mental health break. When I left home care I legit took a month off work and slept, bummed around, enjoyed my life. It’s so needed. Or start applying now to new jobs and then once you get a couple nibbles out in your intent to quit. One good thing about nursing is no shortage of jobs.
